"I cannot tell you how massively relieved I am to see Kauto progressing and going forward."
Finally some good news for Paul as head lad Clifford tells him Kauto Star has made a big step forward.
YOU may have just seen my tweet this morning about Kauto Star but, as promised, I will keep my Betfair readers updated first.
I tweeted that today's Kauto Star's work this morning was, in Clifford's words, a "big step forward" for the horse.
Kauto had his physio this morning and had an hour on the walker, and you could just tell that he had more of a buzz and a spring in his step, and that a bit of the old swagger had returned.
So we decided to send him out second lot and he did a strong canter over ten furlongs with What A Friend, and delighted us.
And when Clifford pulled up and said "big step forward", he didn't need to add anything. I could simply tell by the smile on his face.
I cannot tell you how massively relieved I am to see Kauto progressing and going forward.
Don't get me wrong, or carried away, because he is not there yet.
Not at all, and things can change daily. But this was a step in the right direction and I'm much happier, I can tell you.
We were going to give him Sunday off but I have decided to keep the momentum going and he will have another canter tomorrow.
I just hope that Clifford and I are as pleased with him tomorrow, as we are right now
lol what a panto. When he was doubtful for the King George he drifted to 10s or more on here wonder what prices have been swept up for the Gold Cup after the latest melodrama. I thought the Oscars had just been on already.

The Legend must, quite simply must, be seen one last time at the Festival.
I hope he genuinely is fit enough to race if he turns up.
Is there an element of Istabraq to this story? The Legend must, quite simply must, be seen one last time at the Festival.I hope he genuinely is fit enough to race if he turns up.
absolute joke nicholls...swept up the 14's and was 50-50 for the race now suddenly he is cantering strongly within days...chuck us another bone paul...such a genuine trainer who brings good will to all

I personally do not think for one minute anyone has been led down no garden path, at least by this stable anyways. I think PN has been as up front and honest as he could be. He has since come out and explained why he did not say anything earlier and i think people who cannot take that pill and swallow it are pocket talkers. I am in deep with both KS and LR but take what was said and realise why nothing was said earlier. The horse had a fall, horses fall all the time and no one hears about it because although they maybe sore and bruised one day, the next they would be absolutely fine and so nothing need be said. Except on this occasion they figured by the stage they did say something that they should because the horse was not showing the same signs as he always does when fit and well and so maybe that fall was a little more serious than first thought. Of course now that they have made this public they must now feel that they ought to inform the public after ever gallop which has been the case since.
A very bold move imo, something i wish more trainers would do and i am sure many on here agree with me here but do not because of all the pocket talking ridicule on here from people and punters that know nothing about welfare of horses!
Have you never fell over on a drunken night out, brushed it off, went on your way thinking nothing serious then woke up the next morning with the biggest bruise ever and swollen massively not being able to move that part of your body for the pain, but to be fine again after a couple of days rest I know i have!

you talk of pocket talkers but you then say you have backed the horse heavy...brilliant
can't say I have had a bet in the race but if I had and been told the horse has schooled well.. but then a week later he has had a heavy fall I would be a tad gutted myself...because I have been lead away from the truth...
you believe what you want to believe pal but personally think it is disgusting to publicly say he has schooled well but hasn't... this is what you call lying and being an englishman and old fashioned I don't take to kindly to it...the other stuff is irrelevant now imo...to say he is 50-50 then is doing strong gallops a couple of days later is even more laughable in the circumstances.

Totally agree. Turning up on previews and getting paid to write columns where you state "the horse schooled brilliantly" when you know full well its falling for the first time in its training career is a joke. I hope the horse is beat because I dont want to see some sickening interview with PN afterwards going on about it.
Unfortunately just desserts are in short supply in racing.

Know, what you mean is you hope the horse is beat because you and harry and others that are squealing on here are the ones that laid the horse out to double figs on the back of this and now he is ok are worried for their pockets imo!
You obv have read my opinion above and just taking out the parts that you some what are disagreeing with but you do have to be put in the shoes of this trainer and think why this has happened and have even and inkling of knowledge to understand why this has happened. He has NOT lied to me, and i am a backer! People who say they have been lied to are pocket talkers who have laid it and are big red on it is what i now think.
When i said

is this not relevant here? I think it is and i see it as what happened exactly as to regards to this.
You say why say the horse was 100% a full day after this fall, then a few days later say he has had this fall and is 50/50, what if the article was written before the fall and published after it before PN could change it? Every chance given how busy the man must be, and think about the above and what he has since said, the fall first thought to be not bad at all but things deteriorated in the couple days after the fall which made him think he should let the public aware.
If this horse was with hendo, davies or any other trainer, would we have been privvy to this info? The answer to this i think it NO, we would have seen it drift on here from the first couple days since the fall when they first realized that it was bad and then maybe we would find out. MAYBE WE WOULD FIND OUT being the exactly what would happen cos i am pretty sure we would all still be guessing now as we are with a number of horses!!!!

Aw sore loser eh haha theres enough of them on here i guess. Over and out for me. Really hope this horse wins this race now. Unlikely i know so you will probably scrape it but i guess laying it at prices much bigger than should have been is making you quiver! Good luck to you with this ploy of backing blindly without even knowing how a horse ticks and lives! I think you need it in the future!

Oh and i think people like YOU are the very reason why other trainers do not tell all! It is a very sad game we try to live with where the people within the game do not feel like it is in their interests to tell the public of the well being of their horses before races. Very sad indeed!

What are you on about??? not everyone has layed the horse...
some decent people like myself just don't like being lied too...believe what you want to believe...
the only thing sad is you blurting on about something that is just in your head.

Yeah maybe so but why should trainers and owners tell punters what they want to hear after all this on here?
Damned if they do and damned if they don't!
I have already explained why he hasn't lied to anyone but you just read what you want to read.
Very busy man, articles written before fall, published after fall but with no reason to think the horse wont just brush it off with in a day or so. Where in there says he lied?
Personally i think we would all live in a happier sport if all connections of all horses just stayed quiet and only told the press where and when a horse would run! Especially after this debacle!
As i said, damned when they do, damned when they don't!
I personally of the view that all news is welcome news! Or have you not worked this out yet? You are obviously entitled to your opinion, but i do not think it holds any water at all when discussing the public affairs of a trainer such as P.Nichols! The sport would be a far darker and dishonest place without him!

yes your right all news is welcome...like the one when a horse works well and schools well...
when what has actually happened is he has schooled and had a heavy fall, plus is battered and bruised supposedly...
if he were in court this would be called perjury and he would be taken down...in this instance he has lied and made himself look a fool.

Cant imagine hes writing articles before things happen, if one of them broke a leg or something hed look like a right tit.
He is boxing himself into a corner with these updates though. He's hyped it so much that if he doesnt run then hes ruined the whole show and if he does run and has a fall, hes neglected the animal.

Time to put this to bed. People will always think what they like. There will always be the type that cannot possibly think past the bets they have placed for or against and them that will just pick and choose certain aspects of any news that comes out however trivial and play upon it without the full facts.
And then there is me, dont get me wrong i used to be that person in the shop swearing at the fav that was pulled up on welfare grounds in the last after losing all me dosh that afternoon without a care for horse or connections. But not anymore. I have learned to take these things on the chin and accept things for what they are and i am by far a better person for it both in mind and in pocket!
I see PN as probably the fairest and most honest trainer towards us punters ever. I have friends who have been out on betfair days out and spoken with him and he is a gentleman of the highest order! I was in the betfair box at the Grand National last year, Clive Smith walked in we was wondering if PN would make an appearance but sadly he did not.

No but he would obviously want to get this news out as quickly as was possible! In this case they did not know how serious the fall was going to become. It is quite feasible that the column was written on the Thurs evening after Sat runners were finalised, then the fall, he seems ok if not a little stiff, seems not himself Sunday still, hand about no improvement Monday, lets start thinking about making this public!
