agreed tom ,more red herrings than an agatha christie play, think you are right to just play on the day from now on . how many early season bets that looked good at big odds at the time have now dissapeard into the bookies satchels with not even a run for your money , will we learn .......no ....will we do the same next year ............probably yes !

Yeh,its a bl00dy nightmare, but its antepost that gets me in good positions on the day,and im always willing to take a hit or 2,its worth it for those that come off.
All part of Cheltenham for me and all part of the enjoyment i get from trying to beat the bookie.Win some you lose some. |

Three mains bets antepost were peddlers for arkle at 8/1, sdc at 7\1 for jewson and bobs worth at 7/1 for RSA, now looking like 2 non runners and one potentially getting beat by one of the non runners!! the joys. Im done.

Have to say my book is looking pretty good at the moment, far better than last season anyway.
Would just hate to see Soft ground, that might scupper everything. |

SDC missing the Jewson will be a body blow for me. One of these years I will stop trying to second guess Mr Mullins.

More misleading statements deceiving the public from trainers than non triers on the all-weather.

I'm a big fan of ante post betting - yes, I appreciate that you do encounter the odd (or in some cases, many!) hard luck stories, but the appeal for me is im not stood there at Cheltenham on the day having to socialise with friends, battle for a decent viewing position, queue to buy a pint and study the form at the same time! I find it pays to do all the studying at home and invest while you're in the right environment to be disciplined in both your selection, and chosen unit stake!
I'm at the Festival on the Tuesday, Thursday & Friday this year - Tuesday with friends, Thursday with family & Friday on my own, and for the Tuesday at least I have a bet placed in each race I want to play - that way I can enjoy the company and opinions of my friends without it affecting my own judgement. My bets, for anyone interested... Supreme Novices Hurdle - Trifolium & Colour Squadron The Arkle - Cue Card & Menorah JLT Speciality Handicap Chase - The Package Champion Hurdle - Zarkandar No need to play on the day, can just relax and enjoy what should be a brilliant occasion! |

good read tom...
have to say I have learnt my lesson to a degree on not piling on when I see double entries but as such my book isn't that big...sizing europe will make and break the meeting for me and quevega will also hurt...boston bob has annoyed me as wanted to back it for albert bartlett but shenanigans again have helped me dodge the races so far although he has held the price up on my main fancy of the meeting in the albert so hope he now dodges it...but once confirmed for neptune and now nrnb is in, I am happy but still await confirmation as if he runs he wins for me... don't know what is going on with sir des champs but can't have him anyway and was keen to get him in the jewson at the price so no damage...still like bobs worth I know the doubters maybe right about his jumping but think he will be different gravy going left handed and loves the track...he isn't a flat track horse...would love him to win, his will to win is rocky balboa stuff... peddlers I think will be the biggest carnage if not turning up and must be causing punters a huge amount of pain but have dodged the arkle so far apart from buttons on menorah... they should let simonsig run in supreme but once again who knows... this year has been more brutal than ever but just tells you one thing...it will happen again, with the top yards containing most of the good bloodstock. |

Good stuff Tom but you missed the prologue.....
The invention of the huge invisible gun pointed at everyone's head, forcing you to have an ante-post bet. ![]() |
