Are you calling him a coward to try and save your bet?
Report roobuck March 1, 2012 8:49 AM GMT
No financial interest in this horse either way, but if he is 'not ready' for the Arkle which is still Plan A apparently, then he is not ready for the festival. Plan B should be Aintree or Punchestown.

If on reflection they think that PC would be better suited by distance of Jewson that is fair enough - but they should say so soon er rather than later
Report GAZO March 1, 2012 8:49 AM GMT
it does seem the trainer is having some doubts for one reason or another, could be the horse is not totally pleasing him or owners not keen on running in the arkle, whatever is the reason i would only back him with bookmakers with nrnb option
Report The Headmaster March 1, 2012 1:11 PM GMT
I think it would be a very sensible decision to run PC in the Jewson.  He definitely wants further anyway and another bruising encounter in the Arkle, remembering PC's had his share of hard races, may not be such a good idea imo.
Report Graeme83 March 1, 2012 1:17 PM GMT
"I think it would be a very sensible decision to run PC in the Jewson"

Agreed, and i say that as someone who has backed him for the arkle. 2m over fences doesn't give him time to get into rythm and gain momentum. I've no problem saying that as there's more possibility of many getting a bus to the sun than anyone connected to the horse listening to anyone on a forum.
Report judorick March 1, 2012 1:26 PM GMT
run him in the Arkle ffs and I am a SS backer
Report The Headmaster March 1, 2012 1:38 PM GMT
Don't wish to be too dramatic but these are the sort of decisions that make or break horses imo.
Report sintonian March 1, 2012 1:45 PM GMT
'' Nobody beats Peddlers like that ''

SS backer aswell but want to see a rematch personally.
Report strontium March 1, 2012 1:48 PM GMT
Sint, that quote still makes me laugh every time I think about it Laugh
Report sintonian March 1, 2012 1:52 PM GMT
Laugh Aye it was a good one.

Report flakeydove48 March 1, 2012 3:42 PM GMT
8.0 now on betfair. I guess that points to a bottle job from Donald. Maybe I am being unfair and the horse just isn't giving him the right signs. If so it should miss Cheltenham altogether. However I suspect SS has scared him off and he is too precious to admit it.
Report Masterminded March 1, 2012 3:49 PM GMT
Hmmmm not looking good is it? Even as a SS backer I would like PC to run. Adds a whole lot to the race
Report flakeydove48 March 1, 2012 3:56 PM GMT
totally agree. I thought it would be the race of the meeting, but needs a 100% PC to make that happen
Report judorick March 1, 2012 4:00 PM GMT
cor even 5/2 SS will look massive if PC misses the race

and the ew AF backers will be having kittens
Report colmaaca March 1, 2012 4:13 PM GMT
just keeping his options open fast ground 2m arkle might not suit  keeping him in the jewson just incase
Report roobuck March 1, 2012 4:57 PM GMT
Personally I think it's Cue Card that's scared him off!!
Report harry callaghan March 1, 2012 4:59 PM GMT
for him to be 7.6 this is dreadful stuff for the backer unless he misses the meeting...big gamble gunna go astray here if he doesn't run, was backed back into 3's from 7's after kempton...thankfully i've dodged this bullet....
Report OnTheSnaff March 1, 2012 5:08 PM GMT
a lot of people would have backed him because of the paddy pówer concession too harry,
Shame if he misses the race, takes a bit of the gloss off it some what
Report jimq March 1, 2012 6:02 PM GMT
Last week trainer was looking forward to rematch and now it looks like he"s running scared. I"m on PC at 8/1 for arkle and would just like to know what race he"s going in so i can trade out before its too late. It just goes to show what trainers think of punters. Is there anybody out there with inside knowledge on which race he"s going in
Report That Horse March 1, 2012 6:06 PM GMT
Very strange that he was so bullish in the past weeks and all of a sudden this doubt comes out. I'm hoping this is a market over reaction to non commital comments from a trainer. Admitadly I have backed him but the race would be lesser with his absence - imo was the best race of the meeting with the current line up.
Report marychain1 March 1, 2012 6:09 PM GMT
I think the small drift over the last 36-48 hours has been down to the comments that have been less than bullish, but it feels like someone knows the Jewson is the target now.
Report festivalfanatic March 1, 2012 6:12 PM GMT
He appeared to be the horse for money and McCain was very bulish only last week. Something has happened.....worked poorly, behind schedule, whatever.

I'm astonished the horse may go into the Arkle or Jewson without being extensively schooled since his Kempton mishap. He cannot win the Arkle if he is undercooked.
Report stevo1 March 1, 2012 6:16 PM GMT
His report in Racing Post today was quite bullish, but how long ago were quotes taken from?
Surely he must make a statement thought he was supposed to be open about his horses, if not going to Arkle as been target all season.
Report differentdrum March 1, 2012 6:26 PM GMT
Firstly, I have backed Peddlers Cross but stand to win more on Sprinter Sacre.

If the horse ends up the Jewson you have to ask serious questions about how McCain has handled this. Immediately after Kempton he seemingly abandoned the Arkle plan then a couple of days later it was the plan again and now this. If the horse isn't going to run in the Arkle he should come out and make a statement and explain why the plan has changed again. Why the delay - is it so all the insiders can get on the right market before anything is announced? This is the sport's showpiece and unfortunately far too many of these supposed 'top trainers' appear to treat the betting public with complete contempt where running plans are concerned.
Report jimq March 1, 2012 6:36 PM GMT
Come on Donald let him take his chance in Arkle as nobody remembers Jewson winners. Much more prestige in winning the Arkle and beating the new superstar. Revenge is sweet

You have already stated that the reason you want him running in the Arkle is because of your bet.

If the horse is not ready for the race, he should miss the meeting and not even take in the Jewson.
Report thieveslikeus March 1, 2012 6:39 PM GMT
Nobody remembers Jewson winners?  In it's graded form we've only had one...
Report strontium March 1, 2012 6:42 PM GMT
LOL, yeah, but who was it?
Report jimq March 1, 2012 6:46 PM GMT
Thats true but i think hes just running scared of SS distant view. Trainer stated only yesterday that horse was working very well. We"ll just have to wait and see
Report ilikewavingatbuses March 1, 2012 6:46 PM GMT
i think he'll stuff SS round chelt to be honest. jumped like a stag on his first 2 chases. the one time he goes right handed he hits the first and never travels. dont think sprinter will get up the hill personally , and think nicky has doubts. wouldve thought he'd liked to get a prep run around said course myself!!
Report ilikewavingatbuses March 1, 2012 6:48 PM GMT
poor from donald of he doesnt allow the horse to line up.

he owes him that imo!
Report judorick March 1, 2012 6:50 PM GMT
yeah yeah heard it all before, we shall see about getting up the hill and chemical nicky has no doubts at all, they know its a machine
Report wellchief March 1, 2012 6:58 PM GMT
No financial interest in him, but I'd be very surprised if they went the Jewson.

I think it will be the Arkle or miss the Festival.

If he is injured, schooled poorly etc I don't think that 2 days difference is really going to make any difference, so you have to think if he's fit for the Jewson then he's fit for the Arkle.

I think McCain thinks he has a point to prove now.  Although Peddlers owes absolutely nothinkg to nobody (and I love the horse), but there are now a lot of question marks over him now, and the only way those questions will be answered is if he runs in the Arkle.  If he gets beat then he gets beat; so beit, but then McCain will know where he stands.  He'll also know what kind of campaign to give him next year (QMCC or Ryaniar, or possibly Gold Cup).  If he wins the Jewson, the first thing McCain will think is "I should have gone to the Arkle".  I know this because I am mystic meg's second cousin's mate, so take this as true.

I think it's sensible to run him in which ever race he has the best chance of winning in, and that is the Jewson, but I don't think McCain will duck a rematch.  He didn't duck the Fly, he didn't duck Binocular in the Fighting Fifth, and he didn't duck Sprinter at Kempton.  He was also up for running him against Al Ferof at Bangor, and it was the Al Ferof camp that pulled out.
Report ilikewavingatbuses March 1, 2012 7:04 PM GMT
completely agre well chief. he made h'fly pull out all the stops, he was over the top at aintree and his only other poor run was going right handed. hes a neptune winner and bar the one mistake that knocked the stuffing out of him hes hardly put a foot wrong.

cheltenham aint gonna suit the fav and even money in a championship race when hes never even won a single race at the track is just mental, mental! he has as much to prove as peddlers does. breathing probs or not he DID NOT get up the hill. i think hes a brilliant horse but its interesting the one time he was off the bridle he didnt win. get him off the bridle and he wont win the arkle.

easy innitLaugh

Here come the luvvies again ... Francombe sweating between the legs blah blah he sounded disappointed he has been proven wrong on the horse.

He is an all time great the 2/1 the Derby is an amazing priceCrazy with a Greenham ride. Queally let his nerves get to him there imo. With a Greenham ride this horse wins the Derby head in chest. The Dante he will scare them off nothing beats him he is way too good.

Is that all you have to say. I dont kiss @ss I tell it as it is even though HRAC is my fav trainer. He will be lacking a great mile/middle-distance horse to his cv when he retires ... and it wont be because he didnt have the ammo if this pans out as I expect. It isnt financial as I have Carlton House for as muchLaugh ... the great man will stick to his old ways perhaps.

backs ever horse and still misses the winnerLaugh

eric clueless.

Utter madness if he runs in the Jewson. The horse is a superstar! McCain believes he's a superstar,
I believe he's a superstar, superstars run in the Arkle! Can't think which superstars have run in the Jewson?

McCain may as well admit he doesnt think he's good enough if he runs in the Jewson, simple as that!

I WAS TELLING EVERYONE TWO YEARS AGO HOW GOOD SPRINTER SACRE WILL BE OVER FENCES.

he might be right though specially if the horse has taken time to recover and has done little schooling
Report sintonian March 2, 2012 8:24 PM GMT

Report stevo1 March 3, 2012 4:01 AM GMT
Not at all me thinks, nice of him to update though, waiting till all and sundry have done bollox on Jewson as well.
Report red and white March 3, 2012 9:50 AM GMT
He was very bullish about the Arkle in the Weekender last week. Not sure what to make of it but he will certainly get the longer trip.
Report Swardean March 3, 2012 11:43 AM GMT
Mr McCain likely to get pressed on this one on the betfair twitter blog tomorrow.
