With the excitement building and counting down the days to the festival just thought I would find out about people's biggest bets for this year & biggest bet at festival ever! My biggest festival bet ever was Kauto star had £1000 on him at 3/1 and unfortunately that was the year denman beat him! Biggest bet this year is Zarkandar now at £300 to win just over £2500. Be good to hear everyone's big ones!!

Biggest this year was £1000 on Last Instalment RSA.  Planned to lay some off but he didn't shorten after his last win so I waited for the Feltham form to be shown up.  Oops.    I usually think in terms of what I'm set to win not lose so difficult to remember previous bet amounts.  I used a couple of £50 each way ante post trixies 2 years ago to try to get more money going onto Imperial Commander as I couldn't get enough on in singles at 16/1.  Menorah and Forpady in one and Weapons Amnesty and a loser in the other.  Ended up with something like £1400 win and £1800 place running onto IC including my singles.   Laid off quite a bit of the win part on here so was nicely green before it ran but stood to win 9k if it placed and 24k if it won.  My biggest single bet was that same meeting, Rite of Passage, pretty sure was £1200 but I had a cover bet on the race winner so wasn't painful.

Biggest bet I've ever done in my life was £100 win on Authorized a couple of years ago.

Biggest for this Cheltenham is Quevega, got £70 on her between 6/4 and 4/5.  Peanuts to some, but I only gamble about £500 for the entire festival so she's taking up a decent percentage of my overall budget. Also, if I get accused of pocket talking you'll now realise it is probably only a tenner, so not that big of an issue!!!

I recall the words of Eddie O'Grady after Staplestown landed a monster gamble to win the County Hurdle in 1981. 'Did you have a big bet?' asked the interviewer. 'Yes' replied EOG. ' What's a big bet then?' asked the interviewer. 'One that you can't afford to lose' replied EOG.

£500 nothing to some people, £50 a fortune to others.

biggest bet ever was a grand on goldikova back when she had her 'aura'. was one of the few races she failed to win though. was on overtime for a few weeks after that.

had quite a few other bets to large stakes, some stupid, some not so stupid. had 500 on rip van winkle when he won the qe11 and put 250 of that on st nicholas abbey to win the beresford the following day. two bets all weekend and those were the two so quite a nice profit.

biggest chelt bets, had 300 on master minded when he won his second cc, 200 the year after when he got beat, had 200 on kauto in the gold cup where he fell. biggest festival bet was the 400 i had on big bucks when he beat time for rupert.

one of my mates had 700 on dunguib when he was beaten in the supreme.

It is generally better not to talk in actual amounts. These threads are magnets to the forum bull $hitters, of whom there are rather a lot.

I had my biggest bet at the time on Kauto in the King George...fell at the fence in front of the stands first time round where I have never ever seen another horse fall!  This year, well, last year, I have lumped on Diamond Harry like crazy only to see him fall apart!

First gave up on shorties at the festival after Wayward Lad was pulled up in the Gold Cup donkeys years ago.  Threw my rule book away to back Mr Mulligan in the Sun Alliance Chase.  You'd think I'd have finally learned my lesson but remembered with a shock the other day that I did get involved with Detroit City in the CH too.  Never again though.  Ever.  I mean it this time Whoops

I absolutley smashed into Cockney Trucker for last years County. Ante-post at 25/1, and day of the race prices from 33-50/1. Placed 4th, and made my week.

Grumeti would be a nice win for me this year. I've had some pretty big losses for me at Cheltenham mixed in with some good ones but my staking is pretty low these days.

I pi$$ about in the shallow end but pretty much all my bets are at 8/1 or greater (much greater most of the time!)

Got a nosebleed when I lashed out £100 once - can't remember on what but it didn't win and I was quivering like a sh1tt1ng dog for the entire race.

Never again!

yourlack - I backed Aran Concerto too (though somewhat less than you). It was my biggest bet of the meeting that year (I don't do that sort of thing with novice hurdles any more), but luckily I'd had a little each way bet on Massini's Maguire, which just about got me level for the race!

2008 all-in on Inglis Drever hasnt its greatest fans but due to being down a few quid and too much amber nectar had my last £500@ 6/4,never enjoyed a race less, never again lesson learned and have enjoyed myself much more since,we all know that feeling your stomach is empty and doing somersaults, dont miss it and no more all ins for yours truely,I was a lucky boy and still cant watch the race felt empty when he hit his flat spot inspite of knowing thats what the admirable Drever did.

Had £100 ew @ 14/1 on Punjabi for the Champion Hurdle last year, which doesnt look good looking back, but I couldn't see it out of the 3.

£100 on Long Run at 5/1 was good, but not sure if I can count that as it was a free bet I won on a preview night.

Had a £20 double on Albertas Run and Big Buck's last year put on immediately after Buena Vista won the Pertemps Final and proved how good the ground was. Doesn't sound much but meant I had £160 going onto Big Buck's.

Biggest this year is Cue Card, £30ew so far, and will probably end up with about £50-£100 ew on by the day.

quote - we all know that feeling your stomach is empty and doing somersaults

aye, you feel like gagging - it happened to me when I put 3 figures on Best Mates 3rd Gold Cup..... It is simply not enjoyable and I was even mentally detached from the win if that makes sense so I couldn't really enjoy it - relief I guess.

Laugh sr.

well im having a monkey on bensalem, a monkey on q'vega anda monkey double on quevega/BB double. i havent been betting much lately as ii wanted to have these bets for awhile, other than that ill have a couple hundred for the rest of the races in the whole meeting, i'll know where i stand on the 1st day pretty much, i might do my dought but ill enjoy the festival anyway, hopefully make a few quid, prob not, i dunno. tbh ive become quite dissillousioned witht he sport at the mo, just not enjoying it, fed up with all these gash racing during the week so ive stayed away from it tbh. these will be my biggest bets of the year, if one wins ill be happy. i've been waiting for bensalem for awhile. hes my best bet.

I can't remember exactly how Much I had on but think it was roughly £100 win and £100 place on Sizing Europe for the Arkle. Won over £1k and paid for rest of my week. Don't fancy anything too strongly at this moment which is an e/w price for this years festival.

All my winnings from the first few days of the 2010 festival went on Kauto in the Gold Cup.  Around £100 but thats a lot for me to bet with.  Couldn't see it beat so that was a shock
