could you please let me know the differences between the different enclosures at cheltenham please, i.e , best mate, tatterstalls, thankyou :)

Depends what your priorities are?
I enjoy Club cos of the view and the freedom it gives you to go where you want - more choice of bars you have, better chance of getting a pint. More bookies to choose from.... Best Mate - never been in, but know people who have - sounds like too many pillocks for me despite the fact that you would save bundles on getting in Tatts - somewhere between the two... |

imo Club has best view of the course and the big screen - can plot yourself up in line with the finishing post up on the steps. As for the atmosphere, with 50,000 people there I don't really think it matters exactly where you stand!! Depends on your tolerance of drunken bums, and walking ankle deep in other people's p1ss

I have not been in Club for 20 years so cannot comment on that.
Best Mate has the most room to move about, far less cramped than the betting ring in Tatts tho the bookies are a bit tight with their odds; covered eating area behind the stands with snack wagons, large beer tent with music or bars in the stand (cannot comment as never bothered with them) plus a fish and chip/coffee bar (warm and dry if weather inclement), betting shop and lots of Tote outlets. As with most of the terracing you have to get your position at least 10 minutes before the race (prob 20 mins for the feature races) to ensure a decent position, but I find it a lot less hassle and crowded than Tatts (last year there was a gridlock around the betting ring). The view is not the best in the world as you are looking down the straight (not quite head on) and on the back straight they will be going away from you, but it is not bad and there is a big screen opposite the enclosure so that helps, plus a seated temporary stand that is free. Of course, no access to the parade ring (but getting a good position there is an art in itself). I prefer Best Mate as I cannot stand the constant pushing and barging around Tatts and of course the costs are less, but I would say view (look out for pillars before getting your place in Tatts) is better in Tatts. |

Last I heard they sell beer everywhere - so it's not that tough of a decision.
 Problem with Tatts is that club members do wander in there making it a squeeze - the big thing about tatts of course is the Centaur - thats cosy early for a pint and getting the placepots on and then late on you get a band on in there too. Best mate is terrific value really if you're in jeans etc .... you'll want for nothing.... and can get a real good luck at the runners with the fence near the stand. There is a marquee round the back as well with a band on and big screens. I haven't been in club (legally/properly) but have not heard anything bad about it. You'll need trousers though if I remember right. |
