Fancied QE for this but even if Balla or TGB run I cannot see me getting involved at 11st 7lb and off a 3 month absence. The Package isn't for me either, missing 17 months and had lost his form before that so no ta.
Zarrafakt looks most interesting of the progressive handicapper types, and Our Mick and Mossley from the novice ranks.

Think you're being a bit harsh on The Package - not sure he lost his form, the lay off is a concern however! Any views on Golden Chieftain at a big price? Tizzard's horses are running well.

If The Package hadn't lost his form when beaten 18L by Church Island and 28L by Meanusdandy then he isn't good enough. Bear in mind he'd only have been 3rd in this race if Bensalem had stood up. That said. the outing in the National on only his fifth chase start probably ruined him for a while.

Uncle, I've lost so much money backing that horse! First time I didn't for a while was at Ascot last week - I was awfully relieved he didn't quite get up

Two against the field for me. Blenheim Brook looks interesting, progressive novice in the right ratings range for most winners. Improving and last time out winner. Conenctions not usually ones to tilt at windmills with entries. Knockara Beau, festival form reads 5th to Mikhael D-Hag beat 9 length in Sun Alliance (or what they want to call it now), 4th to Weapons Amnesty beat 7 length in RSA, 4th carrying 11-12 in Pertemps final. 25s looks a welter ew bet with a saver on the novice.

A little bit silly having a bet at this stage, but very small e/w on Fruity O'Rooney on hearing Gary Moore say that this is the target - would be very surprised if he didn't get in.
On the whole though a bet on day race for me

Cant believe trainer ran Knockara Beau in the Argento and got his rating up 7lb, what a pleb. He'd have been a shoe in but now the last I read they were going for the Gold Cup.

did you read that recently Sint? I saw something a few eeeks ago that suggested this race was the more likely aim but would be no surprise if they jumped ship...I don't wish ill on anybody normally but it would be a right result if the jockey got a whip ban and couldnt ride him for once.

George Charlton believes Knockara Beau would not be a forlorn hope should he line up for the Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup.
The nine-year-old has not disgraced himself at the last three Festivals, finishing fifth in the Ballymore Properties Novices' Hurdle and fourth in both the RSA Chase and Pertemps Handicap Hurdle Final.
And the Northumberland trainer could well be tempted to run his stable star in the biggest prize of all, especially if one or two of the high-profile horses do not get there on the day.
The Festival Handicap Chase is the other option for Knockara Beau, who showed his well-being when taking second place behind crack novice Simonsig in the Morebattle Hurdle at Kelso last week.
"He's fine. It was just a canter round for him," said Charlton.
"He was only beaten by that one of Nicky Henderson's (Simonsig) but we knew he'd be hard to beat. He still had some good horses behind him.
"He'll run at Cheltenham, but we haven't finalised the race yet.
"There's the three-mile handicap chase and he's in the Gold Cup. I'm just waiting to see if some of the good ones come out.
"Everyone's pushing hard to get to Cheltenham and there's good prize-money in the Gold Cup down to sixth.
"If he runs on well up that hill over that last furlong he might get into third or fourth, you never know. In the back of my mind it could be the Gold Cup for him.
"It's just a case of keeping an eye on the press about which horses are out and what's going well and what isn't. The main thing is our horse is all right.
"He'll need a fair bit of work as the aim is to get him 100% for Cheltenham and we're just gearing towards it. That was just a gallop the other day.
"He's now won £148,500, so he's not done bad."
Knockara Beau is as big as 200-1 for the Gold Cup on March 16.

You can actually get 16/1, NRNB. When you look through some of the other contenders in the race even off 147 he'll be receiving weight from the likes of Quant,TFR,Giant Bolster,Junior etc.
Even though his trainer has played a poor hand it might turn out ok .. and the form behind Midnight Chase is probably quite decent ..

Paul Nicholls: Noland will be my only runner I suspect.
David Pipe: The Grand National is the main aim for The Package but he runs here first and was second two years ago off 141 and is now rated 139. He’s in great form but needs everything to go right. Massinis Maguire is also in the Grand National but he is sore after Ascot as he puts so much into his races. We’ll see if he goes here. Junior could go here as his Grand National prep or the Gold Cup or maybe the Grimthorpe at Doncaster.
