What are his stats when he doesn't run against Denman? I think like PFN says Denman takes alot out of Kauto Star when he runs against him, with Denman out of the equation in the Gold Cup I think this can only help Kauto pace himself better. If any1 has any stats it would be interesting to see his record, and his record when he raced against Denman too? Would be very grateful. Cheers

Think Nicholls had the improved Gold Cup chances of Kauto without Denman running at the back and front of his mind when he retired Denman.
He wants to equal Best Mate's 3 wins in the race real bad, so bad he can taste it.
Spike - they've met four times, and always in the Gold Cup;
2008 Denman won & Kauto Star was second
2009 Kauto Star won & Denman was second
2010 Imperial Commander won, Denman was second & Kauto Star fell when looking beaten at four out.
2011 Long Run won, Denman second & Kauto Star third.
PS - Racing Post website gives complete form for all horses going back to 1988.

Since he came to the UK, his record in chases when Denman did not run is
Won 18
2nd 4 (including 1 remounted and 1 comeback run after breaking a bone)
3rd 1 (found to be possibly unsound)
3 non completions - 1 fall, 1 pulled up, 1 unseated
In races with Denman (Gold Cups) his form was 21F3

2008 and 2010 a strong pace bombed Kauto's jumping. 2009 bizarrely Denman was not setting a strong pace but possibly due to his heart problems still got 2nd taken both these into account.
