Hi everyone,first ever post.Has anyone ever got the coach from Victoria to Cheltenham on Gold Cup day?Taking my dad for our first ever Cheltenham visit, but he is concerned that the 2 1/2 hours won't be enough.Coach leaves at 9.00am and is scheduled to arrive at 11.30am.Obviously we have a bit of time if we are delayed, but we want to arrive there reasonably early.

2 1/2 hours is on a good day, on Gold Cup day it'll take that long from the outskirts, even worse getting out.

Get the train! Off peak return can be used from 8.10 train onwards out of Paddington. £58 each, much lower chance of deep vein thrombosis.

Considered the train but the old man prefers the coach.Booked the coach ticket on the Cheltenahm racecourse site in conjunction with the ticket.I assume they know what they are doing as reagrds to the timings ect

I cannot imagine why anyone would prefer the coach to the train. Must have amazing circulation and either a bladder of steel or be very small and have excellent balance should the bladder not be metallic.

I was thinking that myself (walking the last mile).My only consolation is that they have offered this coach trip for quite a few years, and I would imagine that if they had encountered problems in the past they would arrange for the coach to leave at an earlier time.But then again,that is just common sense and I am not sure that many of these companies have much of that.

You'll be there in time for the first but it'll take a couple of hours from the outskirts, its murder on friday. I'm only going 3 days this year, you need to get to the course by 12 at the very latest or its dreadful, then its like sardines.

To be fair it's not a bad option in that it gets you direct to the course and is a lot cheaper than the train.
Bear in mind the train takes 2 hours to Cheltenham and then you have to get to the course. I wouldn't plan on being there before 12, and be willing to walk the last bit if you prefer, but it's not as bad a plan as perhaps some are making out. |

Be a nightmare getting through Cheltenham, took us an hour in a car last year

I thought I would try the coach this year, I am dubious about the 2 1/2 hours too, but then again the bus from the train station is murder, it must take around 45mins if you arrive at Chelt Spa at 12.20, then the chaos of trying to get a bus back after the last, and the queue in the rain outside the station like cattle going to the slaughter, plus the possibility of having to stand all the way home on the train-probably had no winners, not even a shout, but everyone else seems to have gone through the card!
