I used to go racing frequently with a friend of mine. However he doesn't seem as interested these days after been largely addicted to oit for years. Can't even be bothered contacting me about it after years of going. Not an easy sport to find company as racing isn't everyone's cup of tea. Anyone find the same?
lt started off with 3 of us going to Cheltenham on a trip arranged by the local working mans club. Now the 3 of us still go but we've got a lot of our other friends hooked and there will be 11 of us in total going this year. We just arrange it between ourselves now and my best mate books the tickets and accomadation in the town.

TBF its a bit of a no no if they are non racing pals, you are supposed to be the expert and its sods law that you draw a blank, get ribbed or insulted and someone else who's just got a copy of the currant bun and has consumed 12 pints before racing manages to find 4 winners
Besides i like wandering around

I find it a fine line between having someone you get on with well to enjoy the racing with, and being sucked down by others who don't really appreciate it. Nowadays I just go with one friend, who loves the whole thing as much I do.
A few years back my friend brought his sister's boyfriend and he totally screwed it up for us. He wanted to know everything and anything about the racecourse, the horses, the betting etc. All of this would have been acceptable if he wasn't complaining about everything as he went. My friend gave him back to back winners at decent prices, but when the third selection was third at something like 20-1 and he hadn't backed it each-way, this cretin made the mistake of having a pop at the pair of us. When he went to the gents afterwards we just scarpered and left him on his own all day. Think the sister broke up with him about a week later too...
Moral of the story - only go with those you know well enough to know you'll have a good time with!

i go on my own, prefer it that way, although Mrs Budd tags along on the odd occasion, she likes Sandown. Mates i have tend to not go racing, they rather watch in a bar or at home or the bookies.

anyone fancy meeting at newbury I'll be the one on my own
Mind you coming to something when you take some one all over the country watching racing then they just give up over night.

Howdi, what happened to your special friend Paddy "the" plasterer
On a serios note, only one thing worse than going racing on your own and that is going racing with some plonker who simply does noy appreciate the thrill of NHR, especially if it's Cheltenham and they come out with "goodness, it,s too busy here, could have stayed home and watched it on telly".
At this point you can never really look them in the eye again without thinking axx hole !
Enthusiasts only come march imo.

To be honest I have 2 mates who like racing; one in Leeds & the other in Exeter. So quite often they can't make it.
I more than happily go on my tod, really doesn't bother me. Tend to get talking to people when ever I go anyway. I have a few mates more local who will come every so often as well.

Once a year I have a weekend racing trip away with a group of pals. Hexham last year to coincide with the Thursday at Cheltenham. A few of the guys have an interest and enjoy the day out. For the others its a once a year thing only and they don't know one end of a horse from another. You can guess which group tends to come out top in the betting stakes.
Aintree on Grand National day this year.
Probably only have one mate who really appreciates the game and we've done a fair few of the courses and went over to Paris for the Arc last year. Met a group of Irish lads who assured us that Sam Bass couldn't lose at Gowran on the Saturday. We lumped on (whilst pis*ed) and then spent the Sunday trying to win it back.

Yes, certainly is. We went over with the women and managed to skip off to Longchamp on the Saturday, while they did the sights. 4 euro entry and a seat in the grandstand. Can't be beat. Free entry on the Sunday and the quality of the racing is tremendous.
Probably going again this year. Though looks like it may be at Chantilly in 2013.

I was amazed at the prices when we got there the first time. Is a lovelly course, yeah I'm quite tempted to go for the Deauville summer festival or try Chantilly at some point.

I go with lads for Friday and Sat of the Hennessy meeting at Newbury. Started with 2 of us and last year 16. Cracking weekend. Usually only 2 of us as a rule though for other meetings.

well, i think a racecourse trip alone does the world of good, i like to attach myself to a group of lads or lasses and maybe join in just as there laughing, and include myself in the banter between friends :) its a great way to meet new folk and id never go racing with any1 as it ruins any new companions i wish to find! its fair to say some groups find it creepy how i tag along but its an endearing quality to mix in amongst a crowd, rrrrrrrrrrr racecourse gallop with MY NEW friends!
