I know there's a thread on here already, but having read through it it didn't tell me what I wanted to know; so does anyone know where I can find a list of the preview nights this year in and around the London area? The only one im aware of is the one at Plumpton racecourse on March 9th.

I'm going to John Morris' Maghull Town Hall preview night on Monday 5 March, and I'll do a write up for what its worth.
Last year's one was top class. I won a £100 free Totesport bet in the raffle and stuck it on Long Run, despite the panel all agreeing that Imperial Commander was the bet. The highlight of last year was the P.A. system picking up the microphone of the woman running the Keep Fit club in the gym downstairs. Not only could we hear "one more time...breathe...and rest" etc over the speakers, but she heard, clear as a bell someone on the panel refer to her as the "bloody Hitler from the fat club". We were then treated to the treat of her losing the plot and storming up the stairs (all on the P.A.) before bursting into the room. Stopping when confronted with 150 men in a big hall with a panel with John Parrott on it. She almost bottled it, but managed to give the panel a rollocking, and the panel all blamed John Parrott, much to the amusement of the audience.
These nights are more to wet the appetite than actually give any tips and time constraints mean that they cant do much more than talk about one or two favourites from each race. Matt Williams was on last years' panel, and he insisted that Time for Rupert was an unsinkable banker. He did however flag up Carlito Brigante, and that was the only bet I put on as a direct result of the preview night. Got 25/1 too. He also said the Irish would have a good year and to keep their runners onside.

Working in London; is the London Racing Club worth joining or not?

Was a member for a while and had the odd good/interesting guest (Charlie Mann stands out as quite amusing)but now just tend to go for the preview night. Tbh been a bit disappointed the last couple of years as they've spent a disproportionate amount of time discussing the championship races, which most of us will have made our minds up about by that stage - also throws up the odd good priced one though so probably worth the tenner....

Fair enough, I may head down just for a look the Cheltenham preview. I always try going to Towcester one, not always the best for tips. But generally a very good laugh.
Agreed that does frustrate me, most of the time they discuss a race like the World Hurdle to death to work out Big Bucks is bomb proof.

I went to one at the centur Academy last year and was very enjoyable. Unfortunately they have gone into administration so will have to look for another venue. I understand the Kensington one was good but the tickets were a bit more expensive. The plumpton one looked good but is £50 which was a bit on the steep side.
My mates and I are around mid-30s and are probably at the younger end of the spectrum - definitely wouldn't recommend it if you were looking to pull, Viking

You can pay on the day, but seem to recall last year was pretty full so give yourself a bit of time. Found the best bet is to turn up earlyish then hit the bar for a couple before going in.... Not sure if we're alkies but we tend to buy bottles of wine at the bar to take in to save going in and out for a beer!
@Arsene - how much is the LRC preview night? Do you know the line up?
Nick I'll probably go tbh, well if any of you lot have a tipple for Whiskey then maybe we could just get a bottle of Jameson's between us? As I don't do wine, and i'm rather fussy when it comes to beer...

Have just Google'd them and line up is Barry Faulkner, George Primarolo, Phil Smith and one other to be advised. I know a couple of years ago they realised they had to get a 'name' at this to entice more people, so with all due respect to messrs Faulkner, Primarolo and Smith, it seems a more well known figure is likely to make up the panel. Nevison was there last year and possibly the year before, so I'd guess he's a likely contender.

Its ashame about Towcester, been the last 3 years... Is always very good fun!

Further to my post above, the London Racing Club's Preview is on March 1st at the Holiday Inn Kensington (2 mins from Gloucester Road tube station). £5 for members, £12 non members (purchased on the door).
Panel is Barry Faulkner, Mark Johnson (commentator), Charlie Morlock (asst to NJH), George Primarolo (T0te) and Phil Smith (senior handicapper)

does anybody know if the west midlands racing club will be holding a preview night this year, and where it will be held,as the usual venue has closed since last year.always a good night and backed al ferof last year on the back of john hales giving it a good word.
Not overly excited by the London Racing Club's panel...Mark Johnson steals the show & that's saying something! Are Betfair doing one again this year does anyone know? Was held in Shepherds Bush last year, panel was top notch!
Betfair filmed there's aswell I believe last year. The panel is not the most important thing for me, I just like the discussion of Cheltenham and getting exited about the big week.

Doors open 7.15pm for a 7.45 start.
The panel comprises MRC president Lydia Hislop, Racing UK's Steve Mellish, Stewart Machin and Sam Turner, plus Betfair's Tony Calvin.
Would appear a better panel than London's though you have to put up with Lydia!!
