"URGENT - LOST LLAMA in the area! Ttwo llamas were delivered to a field between Chilton and East and West Illsely in West Berkshire on Friday 27 January but one of them panicked and escaped. She jumped two substantial fences and disappeared towards the Ridgeway and East Illsley. Despite two days of intensive searching she has not been found."

"We chased her all afternoon but were unsuccessful. She's normally a sweet, calm little girl, but is just in a complete panic and llamas can run as fast as some horses; she's jumping any stock fences."

Sorry, yes, I will be. Whether I'm allowed to meet up and talk about Cheltenham will depend on whether Mrs Strontium accompanies me! I'll let you know.

I won't be going.....just back from Murrayfield and off to Cardiff on Sunday. Supporting Scotland is a labour of love. Mrs Fanatic would get very leary if I announced that I was going racing on Saturday as well!
Any threat to this fixture from the weather?I won't be going.....just back from Murrayfield and off to Cardiff on Sunday. Supporting Scotland is a labour of love. Mrs Fanatic would get very leary if I announced that I was going racing on Saturday as
according to BBC 1 weather there will be a warmer/wetter front moving in from the west from wednesday onwards meaning that temperatures rise towards the end of the week
conclusion being that the meeting will not be under threat

Good news if true. The CoC at Newbury is also excellent. I don't think they missed a day last season when meetings were off all over the plac because of careful preparations, skilled use of covers etc. In other words, if anywhere can get the meeting on it will be Newbury.

Just heard that the Scilly Isles maybe re-scheduled to Saturday at Newbury and with that been a grade 1 Ruby maybe able to ride at the meeting if he's allowed to defer his ban

Makes 'Trials Day' at Cheltenham seem a bit humdrum in comparisom.
Class / real interest in every race and if they add the Scilly Isles Chase then this is probably the best days non-festival racing on the NH calendar.

The Scilly Isles move has been announced, which also means Ruby can defer his ban and ride at the meeting.
I think the Newbury card has benefited from the bad weather last weekend. Trainers want to get a run in to their horses a respectful distance from the Festival (and also while they can in case it freezes again). It will be a fantastic day if half the star entrants show up.

Hopefully get a bit of sorting the men from the boys type stuff this weekend, not just Newbury, good card at Exeter,Kingmaker at Warwick which has Sprinter and Cue Card entered, and The Gold Cup may have another player or 2 after the Hennessey on Sunday. Great weekend of racing, just hope the nasty weather stays away.

Join Together and Silviniaco Conti have both been given the option but the champion trainer said at his open day on Monday he would rather neither had a hard race against Grands Crus and he has the Reynoldstown Chase at Ascot and a later valuable event at Fontwell as back-up options.
Off Sporting Life website Judo.

Forecast for Newbury on BBC website pretty grim up until Friday but too early in week to be too despondent.
been covered since Jan 31 with fleece covers.Forecast for Newbury on BBC website pretty grim up until Friday but too early in week to be too despondent.
i am a bit removed from it cause i live by a river in a rural area in shropshie ( its been grim here) and thats hundred mile from newbury but the frosts need to abate to stand any chance and furthermore fog is forecast for much of the week so lack of sun wont help..i am a pesermistic by nature..take 9/2 its on!!!!

Lmao Newbury have had the covers down before the first frost. I'm not sure how much they can stick temperature wise before the frost gets in though. I'm certain they will be doing everything possible to get it on. Anyone live local know what conditions are like?

Met office has it getting milder in the area on Friday so I think it should be ok. -2 as the lowest temp through the week. Lots of different forecasts though.

I emailed the course today regarding the chances of racing being on this saturday as i'am traveling up from Devon.
Many thanks for your recent e-mail.
The track has been covered since 31.01.12, which was before the start of the frost and we had 1cm of snow fell on Saturday, which has now washed off due to rain.
The outlook on the forecast is mainly dry and light frost overnight with the day temperatures between 0 to +3. The going is currently good – soft, soft in places and the track is in a raceable condition.
If I can be of any further assistance please contact me.
Kind regards, Hayley

Geos - many thanks for posting that. "the track is in a raceable condition" is the key phrase - if the weather is as forecast that won't change, and it doesn't need to warm up because there isn't frost already in the track.

Well, have just been on the BBC weather site and the Met Office site for Newbury and unless they are wildy inaccurate then racing will be on. Will be above freezing on Friday and Saturday. I've had a bit of 2.12.

Agree I think ppl are making a lot of fuss over it tbh to make headlines. #the track is currently raceable by the sounds of it and the weather forecast looks pretty good. Newbury are pretty good at getting things going ahead as well.

Do your Saturday gambling money on the 11/10. If racing is cancelled then your weeks gambling money is shot (but no decent racing to bet on), if it is on then you have double stakes for the weekend?
Win/win almost?

VikingR, I'm taking the opposite approach; if racing is cancelled I win; if racing goes ahead I have the best single days racing this side of the festival, and 8 races to get my money back!

Tbh I suppose it depends what your approach is... I have a little budget as week, so for me I will be putting it on racing going ahead, based on the prospects for Newbury actually looking quite good
