Oscar Whisky giving weight and a likely beating to Overturn before he fell at the last - when you see overturn's subsequent runs and his official handicap rating which althought high (160s) puts him bang there in the champion hurdle.

Better horse than Grandouet imo and if Fly runs an 'iffy' one on saturday I can see why they would be tempted for the big one.

60:40 for the world, but I like this thinking too, they may want to go all out in the Welsh CH to see if he has improved, Brave Inca, Punjabi and Binny were 3rd the year before they won it, but they were much closer than Oscar Whisky last year...  10.1 NRNB, maybe best seeing how he does NTO, and im interested to see how Unaccompanied does against the Fly, maybe a very good measure on last years novices.
Report buddeliea • January 25, 2012 12:24 PM GMT
Mu gut feeling on Oscar is that hes the 3rd best 2m hurdler around behind Fly and Spirit.
I really think that should HF not prove himself that Oscar will be in the CH.

I chuckled when I read the "60/40" bit from the owner, sounds like a prelude to a change of mind. It was more or less certain a couple weeks ago they would be taking the stayers route.
Report sintonian • January 25, 2012 6:36 PM GMT
OW was far from certain to beat Overrturn.
Report sintonian • January 25, 2012 6:36 PM GMT
But it was certainly a smashing effort conceding the wait.

Spot on thinking that...think the same

Well, gut feeling is Oscar would have won,but no way of knowing for sure.

Anyway was certainly a bl00dy good performance
Report buddeliea • January 25, 2012 6:57 PM GMT
Its all about the appearance of the fly, imo.
Report wellchief • January 25, 2012 8:47 PM GMT
Overturn at 75 is an insult to the horse.

Whether he can win a CH is one question, but to get beat by Grandouet by 4 lengths giving 4lbs, with him being 75 and Grandouet being 6's doesn't make any sense to me.

Also, he cained Celestial Halo in the Fighting Fifth by 20 lengths and he has come out and won a handicap off 160.

Will probably run into one too good, but on good ground and a fresh horse in March.  D'Haguenet is shorter ffs!!!

quiet agree chief
Report judorick • January 25, 2012 8:58 PM GMT
price reflects the probability that he will run in the Stayers
Report wellchief • January 25, 2012 9:01 PM GMT
Don't think hes got an entry in the WH mate.

McCain said on RPtV he is being prepared for the CH.  Having a break now because he's had a hard season
Report judorick • January 25, 2012 9:08 PM GMT
sorry got myself confused thought you were talking about Whiskey Crazy

ignore me I am suffering from Australian Openitis having not slept for a week and a half
Report FOYLESWAR • January 25, 2012 9:17 PM GMT
overturn surely at 70s will trade a fair bit shorter in running  if he makes the gig ,should make the running till at least 2 out  imo
Report strontium • January 26, 2012 6:16 PM GMT
Well Chief - couldn't agree more. In fact, it's extraordinary.
Report buddeliea • January 26, 2012 6:54 PM GMT
Race is thrown completely wide open if HF dont make it,hes one of a few that could take advantage, surely have to have some of that price in case of that scenario
Report strontium • January 26, 2012 7:17 PM GMT
Overturn reminds me a lot of Punjabi, both in terms of his season and the way he's been almost dismissed in the betting.
Report willie the milk • January 26, 2012 7:56 PM GMT
I think, of the field at present, the 2 I would not bet, so think have no chance, are Overturn and Binocular. I feel Overturn does most of his winning early or late season. Not consistant enough for me. As for Binocular, McCoy's interview after the Xmas hurdle told you everything. He was very dissapointed. We are all waiting on the "real" Binocular turning up. We were always waiting on another gigantic performance from Master Minded and it never happened. Binocular is in the same boat, in decline.
Report strontium • January 26, 2012 8:02 PM GMT
Willie - fair enough you think Overturn won't win but do you think he should be 12 times the price of Grandouet for a 4 l beating giving 4 lb?
Report willie the milk • January 26, 2012 8:04 PM GMT
Fair point Stron. I must admit to liking little stakes at large prices. It aint a 70 shot
Report buddeliea • January 26, 2012 8:10 PM GMT
Think Bino has a fair place claim, definitely think hes capable of beating the triumph horses, think a fresh Overturn is as well.
Report sintonian • January 26, 2012 8:12 PM GMT
It's quite strange given his status in the game but McCoy is the last jockey I would listen to when assesing a horses winning chance. Lost count the amount of times he has been downbeat on a horses chance only for it to win.
Report willie the milk • January 26, 2012 8:16 PM GMT
McCoy thinks the world of Bino and he knows, imho, he aint what he used to be, for now anyway. Hey maybe NJH can work the oracle.
Report buddeliea • January 26, 2012 8:29 PM GMT
Even if he aint as good,he can still place in this CH imo.
Werent the worst performance when winning at xmas, and Chelt in March seems to bring out the best in him.
No way would i write him off yet.
Report tomdeane • January 26, 2012 9:13 PM GMT
Other thing is that he has apparently been in decline before, only to come good in great style on the day that matters.

Anyone's guess as to whether the team at Seven Barrows can get him in that shape again, but must be slightly comforting to know that it has been achieved once already.
