Hardly, not a bad effort in his third run over fences against more experienced sorts. My worry would be that Ruby wasn't exactly easy on him and I hope he did'nt leave the Arkle here, he'll need to be as tough as they say.

Nothing wrong with that imo, they hardly went a pace early and he'll have the Hill at Chelt

7 weeks to the Arkle - would think that'd be plety of time to get over today

Thought it was a great run - considerin he was gettin outpaced for most of the day and niggling to go the pace and Chelt will suit a lot more

I nearly wrote that it was against proven G1 horses, BJG. But I think it was a bit of a soft race if I'm honest. Much as I like Somersby, he is a pound or 6 below the very best I reckon.

And im nt the horses biggest fan - think he needs a step up in trip and will prob only stay on into a place at Chelt without ever lookin like winnin

Thought he jumped great today and would nt write him off wat so ever

Beaten by two seasoned speedsters, winner blessed with a bit of stamina too. All heart today, and Cheltenham suits him 100% better than Ascot! Al Ferof all the way in the Arkle, cannot see him out of the first three on that evidence!!!

"Beaten by two speedsters" - this could very likely be applicable to Al Ferof again in March imo

Thought it looked a decent run and a pretty good prep for the Arkle myself. It's not clear to me why we would expect a novice on his third run to beat seasoned G1 and G2 horses and AF certainly wasn't disgraced. It's also excellent for us punters as it's going to tie the novie form to that of the older horses nicely.
