Looking through list, the best prices currently are:
Nicky Henderson 2/1
Paul Nicholls 2/1
Wille Mullins 2/1
Philip Hobbs 25/1
Alan King 33/1
Donald McCain 33/1
David Pipe 40/1
Had a nice little winner on this last year with Willie Mullins at 8/1. I'm surprised he is as short as 15/8 this year.
There is obviously a long time from now until the Festival, and the declarations for the handicaps are a long way away, but has anyone got any early thoughts on the top trainer market?
At the prices, I would fancy Hendo at 2/1. Obvious chances such as Sprinter Sacre, Finians Rainbow, Long Run, Bobs Worth, Spriit Son, Grandouet and he has loads towards the top of the Supreme betting that will fill the Neptune as well. Added to these, you can add Oscar Whisky, Binocular, Quantativeasing and Riverside Theatre, he looks to have a strong team.
Nicholls also has a decent early team with live chances such as Big Bucks, Kauto Star, Al Ferof, Zarkandar, Rock on Ruby, Kauto Stone, Join Together and Silvianaco Conti. Handicap options like Prospect Wells, Poungach and maybe Hold Fast. Don't thing his squad will be as stong as Henderson's though.
Willie Mullins can easily have a treble on the first day with Hurricane Fly, Quevega and Scotsirish. He's got some good novice hurdlers in Boston Bob and Make Your Mark. So Young and Thousand Stars have place claims in the WH and CH, and Sir Des Champs and Call the Police are towards the head of the market in handicaps. He will usually have his 8 or 9 runners in the Bumper as well.
There's probably some obvious ones I've missed, but I think Henderson has the strongest squad of the lot, but the best thing might be to back Mullins, and if he can get 2 or 3 winners on the first day his price will shrinken massively.

Anyone think McCain's decent value? He's got some live outsiders in the championship races and he's bound to have a few well handicapped horses tucked away.
I must say I'm more keen on Mullins than Nicholls at the prices. When PFN has won in the past he's done it via the Championship races. His handicap record is quite poor, especially in the chases. And he seems to have far fewer championship hotpots than in the recent past (Big Buck's excepted). On the other hand, Willie is likely to have a decent hand in the handicaps as well as some championship grade horses. |

ruby 8/11 for top jockey some value - big bucks, quevga, h fly, kauto to name four with the pick of mullins and pn in the rest.

Was thinking the same Inca. You can get 5/6 on Ruby with 365 which is a great price.
On the first day alone, he'll have Al Ferof, Quevega, The Fly, Call the Police and Scotsirish. He could easily be 1/2 or shorter after the first day |

Is that price on Ruby NRNB? It's great value if so but he is rather injury prone.
Doubt he'll ride Scotsirish Well - he doesn't do the XC does he? Other than that, he could indeed have a stellar first day. |

Grumeti wins the Triumph Montbazon wins the Supreme  He'll win the Fred Winter with the clutch of novice hurdlers he has to choose from Hold on Julio for the Spinal Researh etc Walkon/Invictus for the Jewson Nah seriously NJH looks to have plenty of Ammo this season. PFN will be seetheing when he sees those betting odds. |

In the month since I originally posted this, Willie Mullins is now clear fav, top price 11/8 but generally 5/4.
Hendo is now 9/4 and Nicholls has drifted to 11/4 after his very poor February, and the news about the coughing. Since my original post, I have to admit that Mullins now looks to have the strongest hand; but wouldn't want to be going in at 11/8. Since the original post The Fly has hosed up, Quevega has lost her 2 main rivals, Boston Bob has won impressively and Sir Des Champs has advertised his Jewson claims. For Nicky Henderson, Sprinter is obviously the talking horse, but Spirit Son has come out and Grandouet is on the sick list. However, Riverside has won well and Bincoluar has shown he has some of his old fluency back. For Nicholls, Zarkandar has won but he has divided opinion on his win, Big Bucks has shown he is in great shape, Kauto Stone has disappointed, Al Ferof put in a decent performance out of novice company; but you can see why he's drifted. As Sint has said, Alan King could be a good little punt at 33/1 - shame you can't go each way. Hold on Julio is still have for the William Hill, Grumeti has since "won" the Triumph Trial, Invictus impressed me in the Reynoldstown, Vendor is a strong fav for the Fred Winter, Medermit ran Riverside Theatre close, Montbazon really caught my eye for the Supreme, Raya Star will go close in the County and Batonnier won the Neptune trial - sporting bet at 33 imo. I will have a bet in this market because it keeps you involved in races you wouldn't normally bet on and is only a bit of fun. |
