Bookmakers have been very generous in quoting him at 14-1 for Cheltenham. As good as Baby Mix on flat and todays impressive win as good as Baby Mix's win at Cheltenham but available at nearly twice the price. The time of the race was over 3 secounds closer to standard than the other 2 novice hurdles on the card. I was very impressed

Grumeti was an eyecatching winner on his debut at Taunton and he is a very likeable sort. You could be nothing but impressed with him as he warmed to his jumping and got a lot sharper as the race went on. He has won a race against older horses and picked up really well so this was a very pleasing start to his career. It was a truly-run race and what I like was the fact that he has gone through the gears and made the rest look ordinary. He has handled the ground well as it was quite tacky and that is the sign of a good horse. I am sure Alan (King) will give him some more experience and he will have one if not two more runs before the Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. Vendor won on New Year's Eve at Newbury and he gave me a lovely feel all the way round. He has shown plenty of guts and I am sure he would have been a much cosier winner if he hadn't dropped his legs in the last hurdle - that was probably down to a little bit of inexperience. He had not run on the Flat and Grumeti had so the latter is probably a bit more streetwise - Vendor had run six times over hurdles in France but not won so it was probably all new to him when he got to the front. He showed great quality though in picking up after losing momentum at the last in what was holding ground. I think Alan will quietly build him up towards bigger targets. Balder Success won at Plumpton on Monday and he is a nice, rangy four-year-old. He is different mould to Grumeti and Vendor as he is quite raw and leggy and has had just one run in France and never raced on the Flat. We could go down the 'National Hunt' novice route with him and he would not strike you as a Triumph Hurdle horse. He has a lovely future ahead of him though and will make a lovely staying chaser in time. |

I really like the way this horse was striding away....whether it was just the others getting bogged down in the tacky ground or just that he is extrenely classy I dont knwo.......what I do know that his price for the triumph will be half of what it is now on the day....get in!!

Unchanged at 12/1 with VC. You'd need to see him run again to see that he is OK imo.

Agreed. Innocuous enough fall, but those ones where they slip can be worse than they look imo.
If he is fine, 12/1 looks a great bet. |

GRUMETI lost his unbeaten record over hurdles when falling two out with the race at his mercy but was still cut for the JCB Triumph Hurdle on the back of his performance.
RELATED LINKS Triumph Hurdle betting Coral made the Alan King-trained four-year-old 7-1 favourite (from 10) for the Cheltenham Festival race, with 8-1 the general price now available for Grumeti, who was bidding to follow up an impressive hurdles debut at Taunton. For the majority of the race it appeared that victory would be a formality with Wayne Hutchinson well clear approaching the second last. However, the pair slithered out of contention with a soft fall that left Art History in front. John Ferguson's runner was unable to hold his advantage on the run in with 40-1 chance Crafty Roberto getting up for Tom O'Brien for a shock victory. Grumeti's owner Max McNeill was understandably disappointed with the result, but was still optimistic for the future. He said: "I'm gutted. He was doing everything so well and just seemed to lose concentration. He flicked the hurdle and slipped. "The first thing is to see he was okay, which he was, because I think we've got a good horse. We were giving Art History 12lb and that's hard on that ground. "I'll wait for that call from Alan King to make sure he's okay in the morning then we'll see. He'll run twice more before Cheltenham. It was going to be once, but I think we need another now." For Crafty Roberto, a trip to Ireland could be next, as trainer Noel Quinlan said: "We might go to Ireland for a Grade 2 juvenile hurdle at Leopardstown on February 12, but I'll have to talk to the owners. He's a very weak horse still and needs holding up. Better ground would be better as well." |

Huge fan of this horse & despite telling myself never to get involved in the Triumph before the day I had to take a bit of 12's this morning. He hasn't come along with the usual hype that follows Triumph prospects & is doing all of his talking on the track. Lovely horse.

Surprising Ladbrookes pushed him out to 12-1. He jumped poorly early on remembering his unlucky fall last LTO. Will improve and certainly good enough to win Truimph . Pearl Swan will also improve and I have backed him at 10-1. Could well be 1st and 2nd at Cheltenham

My impression is that there was no Triumph winner there. Of course, this makes a Grumeti/Pearl Swan 1-2 a 1.01 certainty now

Baby Mix and Hinterland both very disappointing today. Dildar is Nicholls #1 according to his chatter, but i think they were surprised today. Triumph winner not seen until Feb the last two years - beast of a race for AP betting!

I was there today and the race was run at no sort of a pace early on. It would be interesting to see the sectionals. the 3rd quarter of the race was when Hollow Tree tried to kick on and Grumeti went with him to keep in touch.....the pace then increased with Pearl Swan staying on better when others felt it a little, which makes Grumeti's performance actually better than it showed today. Speed to hold his postion and enough stamina to keep going up the hill.

Yes you're right. Apologies, I was being lazy (assuming TS had run against Grumeti in a juvenile hurdle when it was actually a novice).
