The Betfair Chase,The Lexus,The King George etc are all only 3 Miles,Yet the Race they all aspire to win is the Gold Cup which is over 3m 2f,
But my question is..Why is there no other Grade 1 Chases during the season over the same distance as the GC??

My guess is it's to help protect the Gold Cup as the pinnacle of the sport, but it's a good question.

the track layouts of the top tracks probably don't lend themselves to it happening...it's not just a simple case of everyone walking back 2 furlongs is it....it would mean shifting fences about all over the place

Simple Gold Cup is the ultimate test every other race bows to it so it stays the longest grade 1 for staying chasers.

Because two miles is the minimum trip for any race over jumps.

OK OTS, I'll play.

From the Rules of Racing "41.4 No steeple chase or hurdle race may be run over a distance of less than two miles."
