I think it fair to say that Mullins has an embarrassment of riches in the staying hurdling department this season. He has no less than 8 horses prominent in the World Hurdle market:

Thousand Stars
So Young
Mourad
Quevega
Zaidepour
Fiveforthree
Back in Focus
Mikael D’Haguenet

I don’t suppose they will all turn up, but there is a good chance he will run a fair few, and be mob handed to upset the reigning champ.

This could turn out to be a fascinating race tactically if he does have plenty of runners, especially with his stable jockey on Big Bucks.

Thousand Stars the only one of those with even a remote hope of upsetting the champ and as for tactics BB can do it all ways. Also would any of the owners of Mullins horses be happy to use their horse as a sacrifical lamb on the biggest stage of all just to try and get BB beat?

I can see 4 or 5 of these turn up on the day, as its their only option. I'd be certain there will be discussions on what might happen during ther race.

No way will he run 4 or 5.

Quevega is being saved for the Mares race for starters.

Mourad has already been put in his placed.

543 - has he even ran this season ? Plenty of injury issues in the past.

Zaidpour needs heavy ground and looks better in the winter.

So Young may run, granted.

MDH on the comeback path.

Back In Focus is interesting.

Remember, there is the Aintree and Punchestown festivals aswell.

So Young and Mourad look the only likely runners. As has been said Mourad has already been put in his place. If Thousand Stars runs (probably 50-50?) he'll be the main danger to Big Bucks imo, and possibly the best horse he has faced.

Dont forget Oscar Whiskey, beaten TS twice

Oscar Whisky isn't trained by Mullins. I suppose if he was based in Ireland he might be named Oscar Whiskey.....Happy
Report buddeliea December 24, 2011 1:45 PM GMT
yes, just making a point that TS may not be the best horse BB will face.
