I've got Captain Chris in an antepost Lucky for the QMCC.

However, after that run I'm not holding my breath, as to me, it seems like he does actually need further to be seen at his best.  It looked like he got done for toe between the last and second to last, and then was really staying on when his stamina set in.

Pains me to say, but Ryaniar or Gold Cup imo.

I agree wellchief - I think he's a stayer, won the Arkle by outstaying Finian's IMO, Sizing wont be outstayed if he can repeat.

If SE repeats, the rest need not bother turning up!!

You need to stay further than two miles to win any two mile race at the Festival. I wouldn't give up all hope just yet...

I think Chris was far from certain to win that before he unseated (though I haven't seen the race on the telly). However, he didn't look tip-top in the paddock beforehand. I guess this wasn't his target Wink

That said, if he had stood up he wouldn't have beaten Cornas by much - and imo Cornas is a pretty good yardstick for the 2 m chasers (his 31 l beating by Sizing Europe in the QMCC looks about right).

he would have won strontum, it was a weird race but everything seemed to stop bar captain chris before the last. he was really powering up the straight at that point.

wouldn't take that cornas form literally anyway, difficult to beat any decent horse by 31 lengths around exeter, much sharper track than cheltenham.

I think he would have won.

Cant believe anyone is writing off their QM bets on the basis of that... massive over reaction imo! But for an unlucky fall, would have betaten a really decent little field on his seasonal debut over a pretty sharp 2m. As said, he'll need to get more than 2m anyway. Arkle winners have a fantastic record in the race. If he had the speed and stamina to win that race, I'm not worried that he wont have it for this.

But the trainer's plan for Chris was the King George next - where if he runs well he'll have to head for the Gold Cup rather than the QMCC.

FTO making a load of errors and still could have won.Would not write CC off at all for the QM if he ends up there and jumps as well as he did in the Arkle.

Think he would have a VERY good chance in the Queen Mother myself. He would have won yesterday off top weight & unfit if he didn't unseat. Apart from that mistake and a few rusty jumps it was a big performance.

Problem he will have is SE and BZ,they are quick horses at 2m that jump really well, and i could see CC getting outpaced.Still, hes entitled to improve.

I hope he does prove me wrong, but as I said, he couldn't quicken with the others when they came to two out; fit or unfit, I'd expect a future Champion Chase winner to be able to accelerate better than he did.

My bet's on for the Queen Mum, but even if Hobbs said he's 100% going for the Queen Mum I wouldn't be rushing out to back him after that race.

I know Arkle winners have a really good record in the race, but we'll only know how good last years Arkle was once they have all ran against the big boys this year in Grade 1's.  What looks like a great Arkle on paper may turn out to be rubbish if they all get turned over in senior races, and vice versa.

i think wishful thinking will beat him over 2m anyway.

The Haldon Gold Cup is over 17.5 f, not 2 miles!

Just back him for the King George, then you can use the profits to back him for whichever race at the festival you want.

cpt chris is a spring horse so this was a decent first run. he's  never won first time out has he.
defo think he nt guna be running in champion chase Sad. even tho finians guna set the race up for he again
duno wats up wit hobbs and dicky tho. personally dont think he bin schooled enough. im sure i listen to a stable tour the other wk and menorah hadnt school yet nt sure when to was recorded tho. so mayb...i say manb cpt c hadnt done much looks this way.
i think most of hobbs dont jump that well over fences first time out. he seems to have lots of novice falling to..... he needs to sort this out....it costing me a fortune Sad

Why do you think he wont go for the QM rymattock?

"He’s in great form,” confirmed Hobbson Monday. “You’d hope he’d be heading for the Champion Chase but a lot depends on what happens at Exeter. He definitely improved through last season but maybe Ghizao is better fresh.”

I dont believe they saw anything to put them off the QM at Exeter.

i hope they do ive bkd him. on paper it looks the easier race jus remember hobbs last year b4 the festival wanting to go for the 2m5 race this and thn talking about stepping him up in trip.

if its worth anything,i think CC will be in the QM,and WT will end up in the Ryanair.
An Arkle winner should really go for the QM,no reason why not,and WT i dont see getting 3m2f at Cheltenham plus i dont think he will be good enough at that level.
If you think that both SE and BZ are getting on a bit(personally i still think they are good enough),next best is FR,and CC beat him over 2m at Chelt fair and square.
