Peter Bowen is contemplating whether to save Sir Johnson for the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham in March after he won his fourth successive race at Aintree on Sunday.
The five-year-old won at Ffos Las in May and June and then fairly bolted up at Perth last month, and though he had 12-stone on his back on Merseyside, it did not stop him keeping his unbeaten record intact. "He was very good wasn't he? I can't think of another horse that has won four bumpers in a row, not many do it anyway," said Bowen. "It looked a good race and he has given weight away and beaten them all. Jamie (Moore) said the further he went the better he felt. He's an exciting horse and we'll have to have a think what we do next. "We'll either put him away and save him for the Champion Bumper, where he'd be racing off level weights, or go hurdling. "If he does go over hurdles, I'd imagine he'll be out in another three or four weeks, but we'll see what the owners want to do and go from there." |

if i was bowen id keep him for the bumper. its not every year youd get a live challenger from a small stable like his. he has the potential to strengthen and mature while hes put away!
