John 'Shark' Hanlon believes his stable star Hidden Cyclone could be a future Cheltenham Gold Cup winner in 2013.
The County Carlow trainer already describes the six-year-old as the best horse he will ever have, and is mapping out a long-term programme.
Winner of five of his six hurdles races last term, Hidden Cyclone is to go novice chasing this season.
The Cheltenham Festival is the goal, with just three races before then.
"He ran seven times last year, won six and got beat once in Leopardstown by First Lieutenant, who went on to win at Cheltenham," Hanlon told At The Races.
"He was such a baby last year so I didn't go near Cheltenham with him because of that.
"He's only just come back in now. The aim will probably be for Leopardstown at Christmas.
"I didn't want to have him in too early as Cheltenham is in the back of our minds this time for him in March.
"He's going chasing and will start off with a beginners race at Leopardstown over Christmas or one before that.
"He's a very exciting horse, probably the best I'll ever have. When you get a horse like him you have to try and mind him.
"Four runs will be the most he'll have this year. He'll go back out after March and I'd be hoping he'll be a Gold Cup horse the following year.
"When you have a good horse you have to make a plan."

youd know shark has never had a gold cup horse before, let alone a winner!. anyone that knows shark knows he talks an unreal amount of sh1t. no harm in dreaming but doing it on atr isnt ideal
he wasnt the best irish novice hurdler last year, let alone the best novice on both sides of the sea. add sharks poor chasers stats to that and all in all, i doubt come 2013 that hed have the right to line up amongst the best.
i think hidden cyclone has the potential to win a couple of grade ones or more, but i could easily name 15 horses which hed have no chance of beating!

Did seem to be a horse goimng places last year. Trainer clearly couldn't be more positive. My only concern regarding Cheltenham is I'm sure that Hanlon was reluctant to run on ground other than soft or worse. Any indication what his Cheltenham target would be this year, RSA would seem the obvious choice.
Guessing RSA would be the target if they are thinking Gold Cup long term?
Did he not say a year or so ago that this horse was good but not in the same league as Western Leader?

I'm almost certain that after he Western Leader broke down he said that he was also the best he's had [:p]

Just to bring up an old topic here. I know for a fact that Hanlon talks crap. The time this article was written Hidden cyclone was still out the field injured. The only reason he is not running him until christmas is because he got injured.
I also know plenty more about shark but I am not going to say it on an open forum
