Was going through some bumper races and form the other day when I ended up watching Simonsig's demolition of the field at Punchestown. He was very impressive and easy on the eye that day. Loved how he cruised round the turn on the bridle and galloped to the line.

Must say though that I think he might want a bit more of a trip, and I see the Neptune as a possible long term target. I can see Fourth Estate being the stable's Supreme Novice candidate, but would be interested to hear others thoughts

If anyone ever gets to see his Limavady win then that is a demolition job and I know myself and plenty of others were up early for the 4's for Punchestown - was a procession.

I only got the 7/2 Princesse. You'd have the be up before the milkman to catch ye lads out !!

It's hard to gauge how good he could be but his performance in Limavady was unique. I've seen plenty of good horses but never a performance like that!!

Agree - there were plenty in behind with rock solid form that day, wouldn't be surprised to see 2 or 3 of them competing in the big handicaps in a couple of years time.

Cracking horse and hope he does well for Henderson - Bartlett paid a lot of money for him after Limavady so I hope he's rewarded with success with this fellow.

I too, really like the look of this horse.

I'm more inclined to have a small punt at 25's in the Neptune than take the 33's in the Supreme.

After he bolts up in his first run, he'll probably shorten massively anyway because of the connections, so can always lay off at a shorter price later in the season

I think he'll be a Neptune horse, Waaheb is one to have onside for the Supreme, there is a history of an Irish speed horse that the English staying types avoid and I'd say Waaheb is going to be that horse this year.

First run for Nicky tomorrow..will be unbackable but worth the watch. Hard to believe he will come back to 2 miles....winning pointer over 3 on soft ground but very interesting for the Neptune or Bartlett.

I think he is a stayer but i think they started Sprinter (confirmed 2 miler) in that race last yr.

RC, he would be some sort of a tool if he could win a championship race as a 6YO over 2 miles having started out in a 3 mile soft ground point! He was very impressive in his bumper but it was 2 miles 2 furlongs and it was against other pointers.

cant wait to see him tommorow this horse is an absolute monster reminds me of a much quicker iris gift very intresting that he starts off in the same race sprinter sacre ran in too! .his performance at fairyhouse was extradionery the speed he showed there was frighneing ive backed him for almost every race possible champion hurdle included

In which case if the horse turns out as good as many are saying and considering its won points over 3m i can see that race being the aim.

Given the 75 available right now for the Supreme it doesn't look like this one is bound for the 2 miler !

Stormy Mile and Rowley1, the horse is owned by Ronnie Bartlett who is the boss of Albert Bartlett & Sons, an Airdrie based wholesale fruit and veg business.....only a very big one. Ronnie himself has a very strong jumping background....used to hunt (don't know if he still does) and ride in point to points (which he certainly doesn't these days because he is as fat as me).

He has had some very good horses with Nicky in the past but not a lot of luck. Hope that changes for him, lovely man.

Nicky found a very easy introduction for him but he couldn't have been more impressive. Wonder if this one and Fingal Bay will meet in the Challow, or whether their trainers will keep them apart?

At 1/5 he won as expected but he definitely looks a very nice prospect. Jumped very well (a bit too big if anything) and travelled and quickened like a class act. Impossible to back for Cheltenham really (unless the prices are generous enough that you feel there is value in backing it for both the 2m and 2m5f race).I certainly can't see it going for the 3 miler.

Agree UP though he is a shorter price for the Barlett than he is for the Neptune, which is a bit of a surprise - maybe Ronnie is keen to win his own race! Can't see this running in the Supreme and his price on here reflects that.

Prefer Darlan for the Supreme, Simonsig for the Neptune.

anyone whos seen this horses last 2 runs will know hes not slow and has got a tremondous amount of speed and even hendo sed in his stable tour that he wants to try 2m id be amazed if he was a n albert bartlett horse

waaheb is trained in ire, not by henderson so theres 1 down.

I'm a big simonsig fan but can understand why fingal bay is fav, based on what theyve achieved so far.

Don't think i'll be having a bet but I hope simonsig wins well and henderson keeps him at 2m4, rather than running him in the albert bartlett.

Sizing Symphony looks a smart prospect as well, definitely the hottest novice hurdle of the season.

Yep looks a really good race wellchief. As you say prices probably right on what we've seen so far. It could be that tomorrows result informs which festival races these two are likely to be aimed at. I've backed Simonsig for the Neptune so am hoping for him to win also.

I won't be playing. These are probably the best 2 staying novices in Britain and I suspect there isn't a lot between them. On quickish ground and a likely false pace, Simonsig looks the speedier horse and the probable winner for me. If FB does win under these circumstances, he will go very short for the Neptune and Albert Bartlett. Can't see anything else getting into it.....though they do have to get round!

simonsig visually impressive but has NO form as of yet, just a big fat price tag.

He will after today am.....finishing second to Fingal Bay will probably be his worst outcome. Nicky Henderson is not renowned for over facing novice hurdlers in their early races. The mere fact that he is prepared to take Fingal Bay on at this stage is very interesting.

big day tday and one hell of a novice hurdle i think fingal bay isa brillant horse and ive been so impressed by him so far and he,ll be very hard to beat but ever since i saw SIMONSIG win a bumper at fairyhouse last season my intial thought was that id just seen something very very special

Jump City surely way overpriced here. Fingal Bay's form is only on a par with his. I'll be laying Simonsig in this one. No substance to his form whatsoever. The form of the other 2 dangers has been franked a few times.

Came there cruising at the last,going much better than the winner,and got well beat.

I thought he ran ok today. I agree with you budd, my first reaction was that maybe he is a bridle horse, but considering how inexperienced he is I thought he ran really well against some seasoned (by novice standard) hurdlers.

I think he will learn a lot from that, and he was virtually foot perfect, bar one, where he was slightly hampered.

Him and fingal bay are by far the best we've seen on this side of the pond in the middle distance hurdles.

I hope hendo gives him a nice run on good ground before aiming him for the neptune. I would swerve the challow and get some more experience into him before chelt - we all know the record challow winners have at chelt anyway.

He did run well and was still running well over the last,then.......well all i know is that he put me off backing him in the future.Only one horse wanted that today,and the way Simonsig finished the race was not good to watch.Glad i never backed him,would have been most annoyed getting all excited and then disappointed in a matter of seconds.

Thought he finished the race perfectly ok - just not as well as Finians obviously, but he hardly fell in a hole like a Harchibald. Will drop back to 2m for his next race (Kempton on Boxing Day or the Tolworth imo) and then the ground will determine where he runs at Cheltenham.

A drop back in trip may well help him,he travels well and may find more at the lesser distance.We will have to wait and see.
By the way Harchibald never fell in a hole,just could not quicken off his fast pace.

i might be looking through rose tinted glasses, because I've backed him for the neptune, but I don't think an automatic drop in distance would be the answer.

I could understand that if he was pulling hard, or couldn't settle, but he settled really well and jumped fluently.  Although I haven't seen him over 2m, I don't think he'd have the turn of foot to live with them in the supreme.

I think that on slightly better ground, and a bit more experience, it could be a different story come march.  I think he's still one to keep inside of.

The one thing he is not is a bridle horse.

Then he dont stay todays distance,or he could not quicken in the ground,cos the way he was going compared to the winner at the last suggests one of those 2 things,or he finds nothing off the bridle.

From my past antepost portfolios Nicanor and Fundamentalist were both strong travelling 'bridle' horses who in the Neptune hurdle were up against really tough, strong staying, unbeaten horses in Inglis Drever and Denman who were meant to be too tough to beat - I know how those races panned out so hopefully lighting will strike again.

If you think he's a bridle horse, you've lost it. The worst you could accuse him of him today is getting beaten in his first 'proper' race against a tough and high-class novice. I would imagine the jockey will press on next time rather than try and do him for speed.

Don't mix up having a lot of speed with being a bridle ponce.

Simsonsig kept on very well and galloped all the way to the line, just beaten by a better horse on the day. Just because RJ was riding Fingal's Bay along doesn't mean he didn't have lots in reserve, he did and he showed that. Take out Fingal and Simonsig has beaten the third, further than Fingal did on the bridle and would be a ridiculous price for all novice events at Chelt. So we should probably count ourselves lucky they went head to head so early. Cannot wait to see FB get a stroner pace, mightily impressive.

Take your point Wicketd,he was beaten by a better horse on the day,no doubt.But its the way it happened that bugs me.If they had been going similar coming to the last and FB had won by 3 lengths i would say better horse and maybe stayed a bit better,quickened in the ground better-something along them lines.
Maybe you are right and that i am making too much about the visual impression i got,but for me i want to see the horse win a race off the bridle against a good horse.All his races so far that hes won he has won on the bridle by the comments on RP website.Please correct me on that if i am wrong,i do not want to do the horse a disservice.

i see 365 have taken a view on the supreme and have gone 33's when everyone else is only 12's.

Might have a few quid each way as a saver, although my main hope would still be the neptune, and I think he'd be better over 2m4. I want to be on his side whichever race he goes for at the festival.

You put me on to this one in the beginning of September.

I'd never heard of him at the time, but because of your post I watched his bumper race on the ATR website, and then started to read the stories about Giggi Stud trying to buy him.  Had to back him after that, and after banging on about him for months on here it was such a relief to see him bolt up because I'd told everyone I knew to back him.

Not aftertiming - just giving credit where credit is due, and Alvarado certainly deserves that.

thats ok mate glad i could point u in the right direction anyone who saw his performance that day new he was going to be a very special horse indeed and he could go any distance over hurdles or fences hes really that good i backed him for both although the supreme won me more if he would of turned up but cant complain
