anybody care to guess the plans for Kauto and Denman this season?

they will be lucky to get a win between them... hopefully keep the prices up for a few others though

Wouldn't be backing Kauto with stolen money. Seems to have "gone" to me (in relative terms of course). French bred horse approaching 12 y.o? Not for me, thanks.

As for The Tank, no wins since the 2009 Hennessy (6 races since and in my view he's not looked like winning any of them). Can't see how he could even go close in the Hennessy. More likely to win a decent race than Kauto though, but wouldn't be surprised to see one run then retirement.

Kauto going to take on Long Run at Haydock, seems daft

In his column on here, I believe Nicholls says Denman - Lexus, Gold Cup, retire. I still wouldn't be surprised if he has a spin in the Hennessey.

I haven't heard any plans for Kauto yet - and I wouldn't be surprised if he retires after one race. The Betfair at Haydock or that race at Down Royal seem the obvious choices.

Unusual for me this because I thought he said last yr they'd like to win the Down Royal race again and that would probably be an easier target than Long Run (and Imperial Commander?) at Haydock?

I suppose it's more likely to provide a definitive answer than running at Down Royal. They find out straight away if Kauto can compete at the top level - imv this seems unlikely. If he goes to Down Royal and wins or runs ok against lesser horses or a small field it isn't going to tell them much.

With Nicholls stating that 1833 will go straight to the Hennessey would it not be beneficial for him to run Denman with regards to 1833 weight?

Vectis - yes. That's why I think D may run in the Hennessey (which is a race and track that plays to his own strengths anyway).

Resner - quite right. Though that seems far too logical for most horse trainers.

OTS - He's won the race three times. How much more suitable do you need?

By the way, them judge's call on the Haydock photo in the Sprint Cup on Sat really reminded me of the KS/IC Betfair decision - i.e. arguably a dead heat but given to the favoured horse. Was it the same judge?

Denman goes for the Lexus than Gold Cup

Surely Nicholls and connections would have too much respect for Denman to put him in a handicap for the benefit of another horse? At his age as well can't be too good for him to give lumps away to younger improving horses, he finished knackered last year

They could always take him out in the Morning of the race

They said similar for Denman's first Hennessey when Kauto Star had an entry, would have left the rest of the field out of the handicap iirc

Nicholls would get crucified if they did that

1833 needs as much help as he can get to win the Hennessey,he aint very good from what i have seen.

Resner - think you are probably right about Down Royal. 

In terms of Haydock, Kauto has won virtually everywhere, but i am not sure he's always looked his rolls-royce best at Haydock.

FFT - I don't entirely agree, on the basis that Denman is really well suited by 3m 2 at Newbury. He's also used to carrying 11st 12 (the actual weight carried is often understated as a factor relative to weight differences).

Denman is in the same ownership as 1833 - so Nicholls wouldn't be disrespecting anyone if it happens.

Off current marks, Denman would be on 11st 12 assuming top weight, 1833 on 10st 1. They might not consider that a great racing weight, and is it below Ruby's minimum?

strot, ruby said before he thought the horse was useless, i dont see much in his form to change that view tbh. id be pretty sure that if denman and 1833 were both running in the hennessy that ruby wud ride denman[:(]

Fair enough I was just trying to ponder that there may not be much handicap advantage after all for 1833 in Denman also running if that means 1833 has an awkward weight.

Personally speaking I would love to see Denman in the Betfair
