Every year I enter a personal competition with a friend of mine for the new National Hunt season (you remember a similar post I made on here last year). I have won it every year from 2004 and will never hear the last of it if I ever lose it ! Can I pick your minds please gents. The scoring for our competition is based on the following:
10 Points for a win in any National Hunt race between - 01/01/2010 (Start) - End of Punchestowen Festival (End) 5 Points for third 3 Points for third. Bonus for any horse in your list who wins a race at the Cheltenham Festival. (30 Points for doing this) 3 Transfers can be made prior to the Festival. (Normally too late by then if your miles behind) Each Stable picks 12 Horses (Last Year I won it with 411 Points / 396 season before) - 33- 35 Points a horse on average is good going and what I am looking for ideally (always one who has a poor year Get me out of here scored 0 last year. Although I had Al Ferof in from the start for a bonus and subbed in Quevega for a bonus).
My question is simple. Can you advise on some horses who will run frequently next season and win rattling up a sequence. Based on previous years I am looking for a horse that runs 5 - 6 times a season and scores 35+ points. (Grade A horses & Novices hurdlers and chasers (especially 2 milers done very well).
Hurricane Fly fairly obvious Big Buck's should win 4 times again
Peddler's Cross should win a few novice chases before hosing up in the Arkle - not sure how often he'll run though?
Captain Chris + Wishfull Thinking both ran a lot last season and won a few - would include both of these imo

Possibly vectis and certainly on the short list but 3 mile novices dont tend to run as much as 2 mile novices who generally go off far shorter in the betting as well.

Hello Vectis price no relevance in this competition.
My point was that 2 Mile Novice chasers generally go off shorter than 3 mile novice chasers. Its easier to predict 2 mile chase winners than 3 mile from my experience of this competition. Races can be settled in strides rather than slugging it out. Also 2 milers tend to run on average once more in a season (and I want to rack as many wins up as possible).

Big Zeb will not be the same force this year,i'd be willing to bet any money he wont be anywhere near competitive as he was last season,he's almost 11 now,and we've seen last season how great horses regress when age inevitably catches up with them

Still not clear what you mean but anyways, don`t think that many off the high profile horses are going to be running that often anyway ,what with the modern day trainers obssesion with training horses the Hen Knight way.

Persian Snow could well improve on last yr, Hobbs rates it very highly and possibly the way his form tapered off he may be a bit of a dark horse. I can see him doing quite well in the novice division.

FYI last year's top scoring top ten to follow horses were:
Hurricane Fly 150 Big Buck's 110 Long Run 108 Master Minded 99 Ballabriggs 81 Golden Silver 77 Finian's Rainbow 72 Quito De La Roque 69 Quinz 67 Captain Chris 66 Oiseau De Nuit 62 Carlito Brigante 61 Oscar Whisky 61 Diamond Harry 57 Follow The Plan 57 Sizing Europe 57 Albertas Run 54 Menorah 54 Tatenen 54 Al Ferof 52 Kempes 50 Buena Vista 47 Peddlers Cross 47 Midnight Chase 46 Wishfull Thinking 44 Always Waining 41 Poquelin 41 Prince De Beauchene 41 Siegemaster 41 Ashkazar 39 Mille Chief 39
Of those I'd definitely include Hurricane Fly, Big Bucks, Peddlers Cross and Long Run.
Then personally I'd include: Realt Dubh, Weapons Amnesty, Simonsig, Oscar Whiskey, Riverside Theatre (or Mon Parrain) and Bobs Worth.

Of the teams above I'd have from Team A: Long Run, Peddlers Cross, Spirit Son, Realt Dubh, Oscars Well and Captain Chris. From Team B I'd have: Hurricane Fly, Big Bucks, Bobs Worth and Thousand Stars. So that's 6-4 to Team A.
The problem with Team B is there are too many that could be running against each other. eg First Lieutenet, Bobs Worth and Grands Crus are all RSA bound; Menorah, Sprinter Sacre, Al Ferof and Solwhit are all aiming down the Arkle route; so you will be taking points off yourself really

team B for me...wouldn't fancy spirit son or zarkander from team A as they'll find it much harder now they're out of the novice division over 2 miles hurdles. i wouldn't worry about a few clashes as the prize money doesn't count and there's points for 2nd and 3rd anyhow....in any case there are enough novice chases about for all the big guns to win a couple each before they bump into each other.

Team A has more and IMO there'll be a few in Team B will pick up early races and then struggle in better races so no real advantage in putting them in, ie. go from an ordinary novices to finishing 3rd or 4th in Graded races.

Minella Class looked pure class when he won first time at Newbury then won a soft Grade 1 at Sandown. Wasn't at his best at Cheltenham but went off at 8-1, travelled like a dream to the second last (probably too well) and Henderson very positive about it in Mark Howard's book. Will presumably win a novice chase round Newbury, probably take in the Feltham, Scilly Isles at Sandown and then on to Cheltenham and Aintree. Could be top class.

hahaha it was a little but I had Menorah who would have won.
We have been playing this competition and we have never had two fallers in the same day let alone three amazing scenes!!
TEAM A CONTINUE TO LEAD BY 5 POINTS WITH ONE LESS RUNNER TO DATE
LOOKING FOR MY NORMAL 60 POINTS PLUS LEAD GOING TO THE FESTIVAL
