You have a bus service that runs into Gloucester, which is about every hour! You can then catch the 94 into Cheltenham, they run every 10 minutes, then catch service D (departs from Clarence Street) that takes you to the racecourse. You can reverse the journey to get back, but it's not much of a hassle to walk from the course to Cheltenham, you can then catch the bus to Gloucester. The last bus to Twigworth is around 6.00pm I think, you can check with the stagecoach site. If you want to hoof it, it will take about 40 minutes walk, or a taxi from Gloucester Bus Station (the worst place in the country?) will be about a tenner. You can buy a Gloucester/Cheltenham Dayrider ticket for £4.40 as I recall. The train is not really an option, as you still have to get into Gloucester and get from the Cheltenham station to the racecourse, but they do lay on special buses. If you want to use taxis both ways then budget for a total of around £40+, but you will still probably have to make your way into Cheltenham to grab a taxi of the rank as getting one directly from the Rececourse is hit and miss.

.... or walk from Twigworth to the Queens Head and catch the 97/98 into Cheltenham, then the service bus to the Racecourse. The 97/98 run every half hour, but are a bit spasmodic for the return journey, last one is 10.35pm I think.

The hattar is right - assuming you are staying at the Premiere in Twigworth it is a 10 min walk to the Queens. The last bus back from Chelt is 10.20 but the previous one is 8.20. The Queens is an excellent pub/ restaurant (makes it better when it's only 50 yards from the front door). If you want to eat there on the Fri or Sat you will definitely need to book. Have a good one and may see u in there |
