no chance wot so ever very impressed with him think he could well turn over HF next year stays over hurdles
50/1 arkle 1000 qm hope this helps |
By:
Have had similar thoughts COH, Next year's QM looks like being weaker (don't rate this year's Arkle, first three in this year's QM will be knocking on a bit)
Next year's Arkle is potentially read hot (Peddler, Oscar Whisky, Sprinter Sacre, Cue Card, Menorah, Dunguib) all possibles to go chasing It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if a novice won the QM |
By:
read hot

i agree fft, if peddlers goes chasing which might be doubtful, if he jumps well theres every chance he will be in the mix. if i was going to back anything for the champion chase now it would be either peddlers or ghizao

By:
ghizao???

Surely you have been watching the whole of the season, and previous seasons, where it has been shown time and time again that novices need their novice education before being moved up to the seniors.
Mikael D'Haguenet - Gold Cup Time For Rupert - Gold Cup Cue Card - Champion Chase Why do people still raise this question, because they have 5 quid at 100 on here, tiresome tiresome rubbish. |
By:
Agree,if PC goes chasing it will be the Arkle or RSA.personally think it should be the Arkle.
He may stay 3m in time, but he has plenty of speed. |
By:
Sizing Europe wins again, still had another gear left.
By:
Hard to argue with that,he may be 10 next year, but that was one of the most impressive QM displays i have seen.
By:
not tiresome at all Eric surely everyone can make their own mind up
By:
wasn't saying for a second that Peddler (or any other novice for that matter) should be pitched in at the deep end, just that the QM has a weak look about it next year and if a top novice were to go down that route, they could hold a lively chance in it
By:
There's the not too small matter of learning to jump, then jump at pace, then do it amongst the best novices at it before you even think of taking on experienced chasers at the highest level. How about the Arkle first before asking a horse to go even faster than that in a literally break neck Queen Mother against Sizing Europe, Big Zeb and Finians Rainbow. By the time Finians runs in a Queen Mother he will have a few more races under his belt and will be ready.
Far be it from me to question a novice who hasnt learned to jump at the highest speed required in the game yet be asked to potentially pay the ultimate price before he is ready to satisfy chancers with 10 quid stupid bets on them on here to be thrown in at the deep end before they are ready. |
By:
Have a bet at an honest price you tight g1t OP.

am i missing something. a horse that was a brilliant second in champion hurdle, beat by a previously fragile horse that missed the last two festivals. why not keep hurdling, about 50% chance hurricane is injured and u have a champions hurdle favorite.
By:
Agree with FFT, and Peddlers has won a p2p so we know he can jump fences.
Mullins has realised why Fly kept getting injured as he gives 100% in work at home, so this season he has only done half speed work at home meaning future injuries are less likely. I think someone said that Peddlers will go to Punchestown for a rematch with Fly I suppose if they are beaten again it will mean they go chasing. |
By:
cv - my biggest ap bet at festival was peddlars ew, and i have to admit i was delighted with performance. it did not fail as such, just beat by better horse on day. On ratings ran it's best ever race. However when you look at time for rupert, should it have stayed in grade 1 staying hurdles, time will tell. Sizing europe is last champion hurdle horse that has improved on to chases, but i would argue 20% chance. Surely much better chance of soft ground to give hurricane a close race again or hurricane being injured again then peddlars being a top class chaser. Think of pipes horse that went to ireland, straw beare etc. and loads more i am sure.

Asuming PC goes chasing it's not in Donald McCain's make up to be sooting at the moon knowing if he misses he might hit a cloud.
He would most likely keep the novice PC to novice races and go for the Arkle if he proves to b good enough Don't forget this horse gets further than 2 miles and you shouldn't assume just because he finished 2nd in a Champion Hurdle he'd automatically be fast enough over fences to compete with Sizing Europe and co. Even if he won the Arkle I can't see PC reaiining his speed at 8 to go for the QMCC. His make-up is surely that of a staying chaser in the long term and races like the Ryanair or Gold Cup are more likely future targets? All that and the poor beggar hasn't jumped a fence in public yet ![]() |
By:
Evra,Punch is a month after Aintree, maybe they will do both.
Doubt it, but its possible imo. |
By:
The Arkle is a special race, even more prestigious than the supreme novices or RSA imo, do people pass up winning Arkles? I can remember My Way De Solzen's Arkle better than Voy Por Ustedes Champion Chase.
By:
yeah me too, but that's because Twist Magic and Dont Push It hit the deck at the same fence. Very fortunate winner was MWDS.

If ginger was still training he'd be aiming it at the Grand National. His son is a lot shrewder.
Given the horse is clearly the best 2m hurdler this side of the Irish sea it would be a strange decision to send him chasing. Mullins isn't one for sending his horses across (except for cheltenham) leaving PC to mop up all the 2m hurdles pre cheltenham. A point to point win means nothing as their usually very uncompetitive and run at a slow pace. His hurdling is good but by no means his greatest asset and you need to be an excellent jumper at speed to win top level 2m chases. I hope they stick to hurdles and are running the risk of souring the horse by sending him chasing. Whatever they choose I wish the horse well. |
By:
Come to think of it, I thought Voy Por's Arkle battle with Monets was more memorable than his CC as well as I felt the race lost its sparkle when Well Chief crashed out.
By:
Point is the Champion chase will be an easier race than the Arkle next year. Sizing Europe might have a crack at 3m again while there looks to be little else.
By:
I think what makes the Arkle special is that it is usually the only point where future CC and GC horses come together before going down different paths.
By:
Gotta love it Tinker "Given the horse is clearly the best 2m hurdler this side of the Irish sea"
And if Binocular beats him at Aintree which is highly likely. Only one place to go when you get to the top of a mountain and that's down. PC was 100% spot for Cheltenham and taking on Binocular is a bit different than what he had to do at Aintree last season. He'll need every edge he has to be sharp to beat the Henderson horse who is still a class Act and PC does lack that little bit of toe as we saw in the CH. I'd be hanging on to that statement until after the Aintree Hurdle matey. |
By:
Whilst there is every arguement that Binocular is a better horse and maybe better for missing Cheltenham the last place Id have him to beat Peddlers is the Aintree Hurdle. I think it plays more to PC's stengths than Binocular's. I'm yet to see how Binocular is anything like the same horse other half a mile further given his turn of foot
By:
it's a real dilemma
i would make pc clear fave over binocular over 2 and a half 99 times out of 100, but what complicates it is is the unbelievably hard race pc had and how fresh bin will be.... |
By:
Agree mate
By:
Rondetto
Binoculer has very little chance of staying a well run 2 1/2m race. Peddlers Cross will probably beat him at Aintree but he is also not running at his best trip and highly likely to be a under priced. Binoculer may have nicked third place in the champion hurdle ,if he was on one of his going days. |
By:
Anyone who thinks PC will beat Bino at Aintree should take the 9s available for next years CH. DMcC said he was the best hurdler in this country and hadn't even jumped a fence at home yet. Surely if he wins he must stay hurdling.
Similarly anyone who thinks Bino wins should take the 6s because PC is likely to go chasing if he gets beaten. |
By:
Are there really people out there that still think Bino's main asset is a turn of foot??
By:
What performance is it otherwise? I'd hardly call him a grinder
By:
He's more of a grinder than a speedster imv
By:
His main asset (other than his hurdling) is his unbelievable cruising speed. He needs a relentless gallop to show this and is why he comes unstuck in the small field trials. His best two performances to date imo have been last years champion obviously, and his International win at Ascot in 08 which Celestial Halo set up for him. He has been turned over in such races as the Fighting Fifth won by Go Native which turned into a 4 furlong dash, because he doesnt have much of a turn of foot.
By:
Thats fair enough. Just stunned in the space of a year we've gone from not being able to get up the hill, to fancying him to beat Peddlers over 2m 4f
By:
Only morons ever thought a horse 2nd in a supreme and 3rd in a champion hurdle after an interupted prep didnt think he got up the hill.
By:
^ what an horrific sentence, apologies.
