Thursday is still rubbish. The new race has helped a bit but still races like the pertemps and plate are rubbish.
Next year I'll try only bet in three races on thursday. The first and the two grade ones. Love the first two days and the first four on friday. |

It was quite possibly the best four days racing that i have ever witnessed, the weather helped too!

No doubt Thursday was the weakest, but I thought it was alot better than previous years myself. And its very, very hard to compete with Tuesday and Wednesday.
The weather certainly helped ben! |

Personally I think Tuesday after the CHampion Hurdle is to$$. I'm usually back in my hotel, showered, fed and pathetically trying to sort out the winner of the Coral Cup by the time the Mares Hurdle is on.

Great 4 days, but disgraceful decision to have the metal decking placed on the old course to allow people to walk across to the infield without getting their shoes dirty. Not sure what race or horse it was, but the horse had fallen and was loose heading to the finish line. It tried to run across the decking and fell. It took three goes to finally get up. I'm sure it would have made a right mess of it's knees. All because they don't want to get the toff's shoes dirty.

I saw the horse floundering drever, but hadnt realised that was the reason. Awful sight seeing it at the time.

First of all the tuesday is awesome now. I've always lived the jewson and to tack that on the end was great. Having hit quevega three times and gaspara before her, I love the mares hurdle. Plus being irish the cross country races have been home to some consistent earners like garde champetre.
Every race on tuesday is perfect the order is perfect. I know they'd have to change the course but switching the rsa to the new course on thursday and have it as the second race and move the new 2m4f race to wednesday would balance the middle days better. We've 4 grade 1's on wednesday and two on thursday, balance it out a bit. Plus rsa horses running on the gold cup course is hardly something that would cause uproar. |

Thursday is by far and away the weakest day for me. A word for Mr Claise though, see you dont have to water like a absolute madman the horses will be fine on good ground
By:
Day 4 was a cracking card imo. Plenty of class on display in the Triumph and Albert with a hugely competitive Count Hurlde sandwiched inbetween, and for deserts we had the Gold Cup. Easily the best for me betting wise.
By:
Last three races on the friday are awful though. Tuesday has three better races imo.
By:
some people hard to please on here, and as for having races on certain days and liking races cos they make a profit,no comment!!
CCM just saying well done to Cheltenham, and i for one echo that and forget what races i prefer and what races make me money, and just thank Cheltenham for a fantastic 4 days racing. |
By:
surely the spread of 2/2.5m chases has made certain races thinner - delighted for Pat Rodford but this year's Plate was a race you'd barely cross the road for.
and admirable as Quevega is, that was a poor field for a Festival conditions event IMHO. If the new chairman has his way we'll have the pleasure of a mares novice race as well - all v well in its place but pure bilge by Festival standards. |
By:
Don't think the mares race is that bad just that Quevega is so much better than everything else. Other than Carole's Legacy and Jy Vole who ran in other races they had a great chance in, it attracted all the mares who had contested the top mares races all year.

bud, some races are good for punting in, histroically. The County Hurdle has been great to me the last 3 seasons profit wise and the fact it is on a Friday is a bonus as it can turn your week around.
I agree with SJ's point about Claisse, though, as it appears he was not to liberal with the hosepipe.well done him. |
By:
Understand Sint, but the thread was about the racing in general and not the punting.
Its about putting on an event for all to enjoy, and i agree with CCM that they got it right, and imo should now leave it as it is. The punting is for us to worry about about, looking at the races and deciding on which ones to play. |
By:
I think it was the best festival yet. but still think thursday is too weak and given there are 4 grade ones on wednesday and only two on thursday they should switch the days of the rsa and new jewson.
By:
Exactly Budd. You arent going to please all the people all of the time, but I think it was the best festival yet. And considering many of us werent keen on them making changes, you've got to say well done.
I think some are being a bit unfair criticising certain races. You cant have 27 races and them all be top class. |
By:
CVB. Maybe they will make the 2m4f novice race a Grade 1 in time? That would even it up slightly.
By:
The should move the Arkle from Tuesday to Wednesday, move the Neptune from Wednesday to Tuesday, move the RSA to Friday, the Albert Bartlett to Thursday, and the Byrne Group Plate to Wednesday! Easy!
