Seems an odd decision to me - 2m5f is by far the horses best trip IMO. Can only think that connections feel there's more chance of getting goodish ground on the Friday.
TS: Likes Kalahari King. Likes Albertas Run. Poquelin the wrong price. (pssst: jpfestival.com have heard that Albertas Run runs in Gold Cup).
In the Jewson section - though oddly half of it is discussing the Ryanair.

not that it matters now but that site said backspin was withdrawn a week before he died. after backspins death jonjo said he would have gone to cheltenham. so i dont think id trust that too much.

not sure where you read about Backspin being withdrawn but it wasn't jpfestival.com. With regard to Albertas Run just passing on that we have heard (from a good source)that he runs in the Gold Cup. That's different from saying he will run in the Gold Cup.

If Jonjo says jokingly he's running in the Gold Cup that means he is. If he tells you he hasn't been ruled out then it means he has been ruled out and only run if everything else drops dead before Friday.
He goes for the Ryanair trust me.

stable source but obviously can't say more than that. the problem with info like this is that it might be correct at the time but of course connections do chance their minds. we'll find out soon! good luck everyone this week.

Well here's my skinny on things. When McCoy had that interview 3 days ago when his comments about Albertas Run being 'good value' at 10/1 in the Ryanair made the Racing Post headlines it was all blown out of proportion and missed the main point. Everything about the way that he was speaking was that Albertas Run would go for the Gold Cup as AP McCoy made more of a point saying that he wouldn't be riding him and stated that 'IF' Albertas Run went in the Ryanair he'd be good value.
I still think it's likely that they miss the festival and get him ready for Aintree, but if he would go for Cheltenham then i'd say Gold Cup 1/4, Ryanair 4/1.
Good luck.

if hes fit to run now then why wait for Aintree? bearing in mind he won at both last year. if the whether forecast says it could be wetter on friday than the first 3 days then why would they prefer the Gold Cup??
why run in a race where he has been thrashed out of sight in as opposed to one that he has won well in???

Here is my take on it, a couple of weeks ago O Neill said Albertas would go for Gold Cup I put this up on here and we had a debate about it. I think he is better at 2m4f, but(and its only my opinion) the owner would have had an outstanding chance with Burton Port in Gold Cup until injury stopped his season, so possibly thinks go for it plenty of doubts about others in the race, theres only 1 Gold Cup.

I'm not disputing any of that budd, we are both on him for the Ryanair. I'm just giving my verdict with my interpretation of the evidence. We will find out very soon and hopefully i'm wrong.

i know the owner would prefer the Gold Cup,why would'nt he?? But the horse has to have a chance in the race, and he has never shown he can muster it at the top level at that distance at Cheltenham,in fact he got stuffed out of sight when as an RSA winner they had every right to go for it. lots been learnt since mainly that he likes good ground and around 2 and half miles,as his best form says.
