My whole festival revolved around Binocular this year. Had him tied into numerous multiples and combi bets. Dont mind him getting beat but not running due to a banned substance in his system takes the ****.

Tranquil Sea for me, had numerous bets which would have got me £47 grand, done some others now which gets me £45 so still some hope
Report Graeme83 • March 13, 2011 11:55 AM GMT
It's more or less ruined things for myself also. Not completely, but not far off it. I can take a horse getting beat, but this leaves a very bad taste. Only yesterday i was on the phone with my brother, and we were talking about how corrupt British racing is.
Report Temlett • March 13, 2011 11:57 AM GMT
If your festival revolved around one horse that was competing in the most competitive champion hurdle for many a year, then you should reassess your betting strategy.
Report Ibrahima Sonko • March 13, 2011 11:57 AM GMT
I thought it was the bet of the week, especially ew.

I have been dreaming about tuesday for weeks, they finally know how to ride bino and thats handy then kicking on early.
Report mythical prince • March 13, 2011 11:59 AM GMT
something not quite right about the way henderson operates. gets this ban for this moonlit path horse. then does a similar thing with binocular (giving him a prohibited substance)

not to mention the whole agean dawn thing (gets injured, then makes an amazing recovery two days later)

its like he operates under the impression that he's above all the normal rules that apply to everyone else.
Report eric_morris • March 13, 2011 12:00 PM GMT
This horse and connections have now kicked punters in the teeth in 3 different Champion Hurdles for 3 different reasons. Bad horse for punters.
Report woodworm • March 13, 2011 12:01 PM GMT
He was the last horse in numerous multiples with winners already in the bag, stood to win several grand.
Yes I know ante post betting comes with risk but to not get to the race this way is what hurts.

Wouldn't normally be so tied into one horse I just felt the price was value after last years performance.
I can still have a good festival; but no other horse can win me anywhere near as much as Bino could have.
Report woodworm • March 13, 2011 12:03 PM GMT
I also have a fairy hefty save on Hurricane Fly with Spoilsports (money back if second) which looks good now but its still peanuts compared to what it could have been!

"He was the last horse in numerous multiples with winners already in the bag, stood to win several grand."

Jesus Woodworm. I'm in the exact same boat. He was the last leg of a 4 times for me, expanding over 13 months. I've been thinking about this race for months.
Report woodworm • March 13, 2011 12:07 PM GMT
Been talking about this horse and this race for months to anybody that would listen.
Makes me look like a complete muppet to my non-racing friends now!
Report unclepuncle • March 13, 2011 12:07 PM GMT
Had him at 4/1 in a life- changing 5 timer with Penitent (8/1 Lincoln), Special Duty (7/2 1,000 Guineas) and then Big Zeb 5/1 and Imperial Commanver 5/1 as well as a treble with Big Zeb and Imperial Commander. I'm now hoping at least one of those two dosen't win.Cry

Unlucky with your five quid uncle puncle.
Report Graeme83 • March 13, 2011 12:11 PM GMT
Eric can you kindly **** off and stop annoying people. Some of us needed him to run, and most decent people don't take pleasure in other peoples misfortune.
Report woodworm • March 13, 2011 12:12 PM GMT
I spend all summer putting him in multiples with odds on flat horses and Workforce for the Arc, I also had him in a nice ew multiple with Bensalem 16s and For Non Stop 14s, I also had him in a bet with lads on all 4 champs from last yr winning again at 200-1.

Yes lots of work to still be done but just Bino alone winning was several grand and anything else a huge bonus.
Getting placed would have helped as also had a large ew double with worforce which is also down the pan!
Report Rondetto • March 13, 2011 12:14 PM GMT
Sorry to hear that Woodworm. I was lucky and the exact opposite last year when they said he wouldn't run then did.

I'm in the Hurricane fly camp this time but I would still have preferred it had Binocular made it as it's taken so much away from what look like the best Champion Hurdle since the days of Sea Pigeon and co.

What I hate about all this, is a lot of these drugs not performance enhancing they are simple medicines used by doctors to treat humans as well as horses.
At times it seems like the BHA don't have a clue what is what and it's a case of just lets ban everything to be safe.

I don't know the ins and outs of this particular drug but millions of pounds of punters money has just gone awol and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if the drug has no side affects that would have increased the horses chances one way or another.
Report williew99 • March 13, 2011 12:16 PM GMT
THATS ASSUMING YOUR OTHERS WILL WIN..BUNCH OF WHINGERS,  GET OVER IT.   JUST HAMMER YOUR OTHER HORSES IN  YOUR GUARANTEED TREBLE ,ACCA. GO AND BACK IT WITH THE GRANDS THAT BINO WOULD HAVE MADE FOR YOU.. INSTEAD OF SPOUTING FANTASY STUFF. GROW A SET OF BALLS ALL YOU  BIG TIME  GAMBLERS..NOT
Report woodworm • March 13, 2011 12:17 PM GMT
Have they said what drug was used?
I am a vet, which kinda makes things worse as I can't believe this has happened.

Don't feel too sorry for me; my multiples have paid for themselves already its just the opportunity to win big has gone!
Report ReaseHeath • March 13, 2011 12:22 PM GMT
agree with Rondetto's comments about BHA - a scenario where Bino is permitted to take the medication, is fit to run but can't do so because he'll induce a positive test is nonsensical - bad for punters, thei mage of racing and the spectacle of the Champion Hurdle.

Eric - the 5 timer was actualy only £3Laugh (would still be £20k returnSad)

The treble was £30 if you really want to knowSilly

I don't bet in tens of thousands like some peopleSilly

NEITHER DO I.. POINT IS WHY THE DISSAPOINTMENT WHEN THEIR OTHER CHOICES WILL STILL WIN ACCORDING TO THEIR MINDS,SO HAMMER THESE BETS INSTEAD. THEN THE PAIN WILL EASE.. AS THEY ARE ALL CERTAINTIES.. ARENT THEY
Report eric_morris • March 13, 2011 12:30 PM GMT
I dont take pleasure in that Graeme, only returning the compliment to uncle puncle who does.
Report Graeme83 • March 13, 2011 12:35 PM GMT
Fair enough Eric. If he's being a pryck and doing it to others then fair enough. It's just a slightly sensitive topic because some of us are skint and have been needing Binocular to run for a long time. I personally need him for a 13 quid 4 timer which would have paid between 3-4 grand. I always anticipate bad luck, but in this manner it's a scunner. I've also invested a lot of time and bets.
Report williew99 • March 13, 2011 12:37 PM GMT

Mate the way I bet I will have lost more than anyone on this thread, but regained it on others. You need to try to use better methods though I know most dont put in as much effort as me.
Report Graeme83 • March 13, 2011 12:42 PM GMT
I have Eric. The other horse i backed was Hurricane Fly. I just wanted Binocular to take to the race.
Report williew99 • March 13, 2011 12:42 PM GMT
GRAEME WHY YOU LAUGH.. IM SERIOUS
Report unclepuncle • March 13, 2011 12:44 PM GMT
Eric - you did this with all the people that backed Starluck as well.

I assume your reference to me doing it is about Captain Chris - even though I have agreed on various of your threads they should go for the Arkle. It was just your never ending slagging off of Hobbs etc when there were always two possible options for him that became tiring - so I teased you about backing him for the wrong race. With Binocular nobody had that risk, they backed him for the race he was always going for and have been scuppered by events out of their control.

THATS THE WORLD OF GAMBLING IM AFRAID.. BEST TO DISCUSS THIS TOPIC AFTER THE MEETING AND THEN YOU ALL CAN BLEAT AT THE FACTS, ... NOT FICTION.
Report eric_morris • March 13, 2011 12:46 PM GMT
No the Arkle I said people were putting their bet before the safety of the horse ... and I was right ...as usual.
Report Rondetto • March 13, 2011 12:46 PM GMT
Paddy Power, William Hill and Stan James announced they will refund all ante-post bets placed on Binocular.
Report Masterminded • March 13, 2011 12:47 PM GMT
Sad Kind of disappointed not only because he was my biggest bet of the festival but because it has taken a huge amount away from my favourite race of the year. The horse is a star and that's why I like racing. It's not his fault his connections piss about with him sending him half fit to certain races. I have been looking forward to seeing him again since last years festival. Yes we will have a new champion but it doesn't seem right that binocular can't defend his crown and on tuesday will be just at home in his box. I will admit that justice has maybe been done a bit because last year I was one of the lucky ones that backed him at a huge price on here during the will he wont he run fiasco. I have certainly lost a load before I've started now tho. Cry
Report Graeme83 • March 13, 2011 12:51 PM GMT
Hills just paid me over 600 quid for the first 3 wins of a 4 timer that needed Binocular. FFS i didn't expect that.
Report Glossy • March 13, 2011 12:51 PM GMT
I've no money on Binocular and it's helped by antepost bets no end, however it's certainly detracted from what was set to be an intriguing race. It'll still be a good one, but there's going to be THAT question mark over whatever wins.
Report unclepuncle • March 13, 2011 12:53 PM GMT
^ Nice One - presumably Binocular was nrnb or have they just been very generous (which I find hard to believe from any of the big bookies)?
Report Graeme83 • March 13, 2011 12:56 PM GMT
They have just been generous puncle. I placed the bet 13 months ago.
Report unclepuncle • March 13, 2011 12:57 PM GMT
Probably an error then and they will ask for it back tomorrow - withdraw it sharpishLaugh
Report unclepuncle • March 13, 2011 12:59 PM GMT

Report Splicer Keats • March 13, 2011 1:58 PM GMT
Just bet him to win at Aintree and Punchestown, money back, problem sorted.
Report Gashboy13 • March 13, 2011 2:13 PM GMT
Shame for the race, but least it saves him being embarrassed by Menorah and The Fly.
Report woodworm • March 13, 2011 2:15 PM GMT
Roll on Aintree!
Report That Horse • March 13, 2011 2:24 PM GMT
I've had my bet refunded from b365, fair play to them I was resigned myself for a loss. Banked the refund and will spend a bit of time looking for the winner.

I cant keep away from khyber kim. Surely 12/1 BOG, NRNB is a cracking price given the run last year? Will go off single digits surely? Concerned over the run lto, thoughts?
