Paul Townsend must have known from the minute Ruby was injured he would be very unlikely to keep the mount if he got back in time. He'll of course be disappointed and even had thoughts of breaking Ruby's other leg but he'll survive. Interesting quote from Ruby when asked if he thought it was fair. "Was it fair I broke my leg"?

Don't know that we can question his fitness. Can't see both PN and WM giving him the go ahead if there was any doubt about that.

well if Ted thinks it fine for Ruby to take over on Hurricane Fly as he is stable no. 1 then its fine for Paul to take over on Thousand Stars as he is stable no. 2

Did anyone really think anything other than Ruby riding was likely?

It's simple:

stable no.1 gets pick and rides what he deems to have the best chance
stable no.2 rides whatever is left or chooses next if there is more than one other runner


so the trainer may have had a change of heart, get over it. didn't Henrietta say that Hayden Frost would ride Somersby unless AP McCoy became available? she had a change of heart too

does ruby need to be fit to rie the fly? he wont have to move a muscle for the whole trip!!

I agree with you that he should not have said she has the ride but how hard would it have been on Townend to be told he now has no ride in the Champion Hurdle?

If Ruby Walsh is the main stable jockey then he should be on Hurricane Fly. Simple. He's ridden it before and he's won on it before.

If you're Townend you should be grateful you got to take rides that you wouldnt normally have got
