Was my best festival ever and I've had a few stinkers, back in the old 20 race days I went an entire festival and then the first 2 days of the following year before Katarino ended my run!
Last year I had Sizing & Quevega on Tuesday; on the Weds Weapons Amnesty and Michael Flips e/w; Thursday was my best ever single days punting (and on the day of the void National I went through the supporting card - am convinced to this day that Party Politics would've won again and that I've been robbed of my chance to do it) with Copper Bleu, Buena Vista and Albertas Run (at fancy antepost prices); on the Friday I contented myself with Arcalis e/w and closed out with Pigeon Island + the F/C with French Opera. I had to give my mate a wedge that would choke a donkey cos I didn't have anywhere to keep it all. No doubt this year normal service will be resumed ![]() |

Main bet was Binocular who I had been backing all year so consider myself lucky. Also had Quevega on the first day.
Losers were Get me Out of Here and Dunguib(saver) and Captain Cee Bee. Day 2 EW double on Kalahari King and James De Vassy showed a profit. 1 Losing bet Fianians Rainbow ![]() Day 3 Was thinking only about the Gold cup so:- put an EW bet on Alberta's Run bet Big Bucks to win went straight to the pub didn't know they both won until the next day "Hic!" Day 4 Backed Barizan ew and Alavain to win Took I/2 my winnings from Aberta's and Buck Buck's and lost the lot on Kauto Star :( Overall mainly thanks to Binny I had a good week but was sick as a parrot after the Gold Cup and called it a day. |

One - Albertas Run
Turned in a profit but I only have about half-a-dozen bets anyway. |
|
By:
I had a pretty poor festival after Kauto lost, it was saved by Big Zeb and Sizing Europe being big wins.
Also had wins on Quevega, Menorah, Peddlers Cross, Big Bucks and Sanctuaire. |

how many bets per race are people having? from 1 bet a race 6-8 winners is good going at the festival even if the shorties are included

Winners :-
Menorah Chief Dan George ( and the forecast with the Package ) Quevega Peddlers Cross Weapons Amnesty Poker di Sivola Copper Bleu Albertas Run Great Endeavour Baby Run Losers that hurt Masterminded Including ante post it is not unusual for me to back 2 runners in a race and sometimes 3 in the handicaps |

Had my worst Cheltenham ever in terms of results on the track. Fortunately I won enough on the official going market for it not to be totally ruinous

I usually back 1 in the Championship races and 2 in the hcaps last years winners were
Menorah Peddlers Cross Weapons Amnesty Copper Bleu Ballabriggs However the year before using the same tack I got something like 16 winners inc Andytown, American Trilogy,Character Building, Ninetieth Minute, Forpadydeplasterr, Zaynar. etc I just could not go wrong. Also had many difficult years mainly in the 90s |
|
By:
Had a pretty dire year last year, only winners were
Quevega Peddlers Cross Kalahari King (place) Shocker, can only get better this year! (Touch wood) |

BANKER = Sizing Europe got the 7/1 in the Centaur that was up for approx 30 seconds! Took all the pressure off.
a-post eway Osana L'ami - decent tote place only bet Spirit River - 19.30 on the Tote [;)] Buena Vista. eway on Time for Rupert Imperial Commander luckily sized the bets just right..... every day was profitable but Friday was close as I lost a lump in Berties Dream's race. |

how many bets per race are people having? from 1 bet a race 6-8 winners is good going at the festival even if the shorties are included
in answer to Alex Millwalls post above - I have 1 bet per race unless I have a real strong opinion on it (I liked SEurope and Osana - would have wons tons if they had come 1st & 2nd) - I also do placepots, forecasts (which get more stupid as the beer goes in) and one eway yankee a day. I will just add that bet sizing is important - if that clicks with even just a couple of winners you can be in clover. |
|
By:
Usually I have one main bet and a saver in the graded races and one or two handicaps. But the arkle and champion hurdle I usually have 3 bets, still main one two savers, this usually happens because I play antepost in those two quite a bit
|
|
By:
I had two nice priced winners in Albertas Run and Thousand Stars.
Disappointedly lossed my nice anteposts on Captain Cee Bee. Made a decent profit still. |
|
By:
I had 3 winners, Menorah, Quevega and Sanctuaire, but the Menorah pick up was a saver for a big Duinguib plunge - fooking bloodbath for me.
Smashed into Garde Champetre, Poquelin, Sunnyhillboy as well, my only pick up after the Neptune was each way Mon Mome, I plan on getting it all back this year with interest.... |

2
Albertas Run and Pidgeon Island (which more than made up for it!) |

worse three days of my life - no winners
worse yet just before the off Quevega was 1/1 a place on the tote, returned 1/5 God my mates laughed at me after that |
|
By:
Copper Bleu, Peddlers Cross, Cue Card and Sizing Europe, iirc
|
|
By:
Forpady e/w also
Bensalem and From Dawn To Dusk where painful losers. We all know about the first, the latter lost any chance of winning with a blunder at the second last Captain Cee Bee was painful (25/1 ) |

..sounds like i didnt do too bad then with 6 winners ... unfortunetly i was fighting losing battle from first race after i tried to double my weeks stake on dunguib ...after that just scraping around ...thought my luck changed then with sizing, binoc and quevega all winning on first day to nearly get my pot back but then wednesday was a black day .... rite of pass, long run and masterminded wiped me right out!!
Stupidly maybe im keeping faith with the ones who ruined me last year!! Dunguib, Masterminded and long run .....LETS GET READY TO RUMMMMMMMMMBLE!!!!!!! |
|
By:
btw I don't tend to go mental with the festival like some do, and although just the 4 winners I had my best festival to date, and yes it was profitable
