I have been mulling it over for a few weeks now how best to attack this. I usually get the 1st day's placepot up, albeit  never making an earth shattering amount of profit.

1st leg:

The question is do you banker Cue Card or do you put two or three others in and hope Cue Card doesn't make the frame.

Those that fancy Cue Card to romp home as his price reflects will have little hesitation in bankering him and moving onto the Arkle. For people like me who consider the Supreme to be a wide open affair you will be looking to get a few bigger priced horses to kick you off to a great start. I think this is a good way to play because even if Cue Card does go on to place you still have a fair chance of getting through. My selections in the Supreme are Spirit Son and Recession Proof. I will put another selection in on the day, but still haven't decided who else to choose yet. I have gone off of Sprinter Sacre as I hear BG will be choosing Spirit Son and I am put off by comments that they see him more as a chaser.

My reasoning behind not choosing Cue Card is because:

(a) with horses at this age they can improve dramatically in a couple of months so Cue Card is potentially not the best horse in the race. (b) with a big field running at a blistering pace if you are not positioned handy you can find the race is already won by the time your horse starts to run on up the hill.
(c) my general attitude towards placepots is I'd rather give myself the chance to win a big and I am prepared to take a chance where I believe there is reasonable doubt over a short priced favourite.

2nd leg:

With only one favourite winning this race in the last 10 runnings (the great Azertyuiop!) the arkle may look like a tricky race to work out. But when you also see that there hasn't been a double figure priced winner in the the last 10 runnings you can feel comfortable ruling out any horses that haven't put their best foot forward yet.

I personally like the chances of Medermit and will be selecting him, but I will also add Ghizao for insurance.

3rd leg:

The 3 mile handicap chase is the 1st of two handicaps on the opening day placepot card. For me I think it is worth having at least four runners on my side for this one. I am sweet on Sunnyhillboy's chances so that's one. I can't have Bensalem as his jumping is too unreliable. If Junior was to line up then I would add him. I will also add two more on the day when I know who is running.

4th leg:

The Champion Hurdle is very competitive this year, but I feel confident that Henderson will have Binocular in A1 condition for this. My other selection is Peddlers Cross who has yet to be defeated. Up until now the horse has just kept findind and I think he is good enough to at least run into a place.

5th leg:

This is do or die for me. I will only be selecting two in the Cross Country handicap and neither of them will be L'ami or Garde Champetre. My strong fancy is One Cool Cookie who I believe will go on from this to win the Grand National from this. The other I will select is Maljimar as 'Extreme Conviction' made an excellent account as to why he has a good chance.

6th leg:

My only banker is Quevega. I won't bore you with my reasons.

Summary:

1st Leg = 3
2nd Leg = 2
3rd Leg = 4
4th Leg = 2
5rd Leg = 2
6th Leg = 1

Total perms = 96

I will do a 25p placepot on the above costing £24.

If you usually get the Tuesday placepot up, but not to earth shattering profit, then you must be putting on more than 96 lines, as it's virtually never less than a three figure return and that's assuming just a single line drops in. Two for big Gs in the last 5 or 6 years if I recall?

As you know UTI, your fascination with Salad Cream sickens me to my soul and makes me deeply suspicious of someone who, in every other regard, seems a reasonable type. Nonetheless, even I would concede that that abomination is more suitable to a plate of fish and chips than ketchup (or for our less affluent contingent 'red sauce'), being, as it is, a very poor mans version of tartar.

DES G trying to sound intelligent but just waffling garbage as per usual

great post

more lines needed than 96 me thinks - am not even looking until Sunday night. Want to get Cue Card beaten in the first and can also see a result in the Arkle.

Not long now!

Hoping for an unplaced cue card myself but think the Arkle will be fought out by the market leaders.
