I've reviewed Mr Gardner again and I really think he's a great bet, think he would have been very close to Captain Chris and Medermit lto if he hadn't made that mistake 2 out. That was only his 2nd start over fences and to have been thrown into a Grade 1 race shows some faith in his ability by Henderson. He's entitled to improve again for the experience.

Given Captain Chris is half the price and may be feeling the long campaign or even go for the Arkle I think he represents some good value at this stage given Jessies Dream, Quel Esprit, Realt Dubh will all be non runners while Wishfull thinking, Captain chris and noble Prince hold multiple entries, and Nicholls has been very downbeat about Royal Charm.

1.5pts Mr Gardner 12/1 added

Do you think he perhaps runs a bit free for Cheltenham ?

Well yes there are a few frayed edges if you will, he's only had 2 runs over fences and he is a bit free, but you'd have to think that there is improvement with each run. He's very lightly raced. It's more his talent that I'm betting on, the odds take those into account it's also why I wouldn't back him e/w.

LML should not be twice the price of Captain Chris in this race.

Totally agree das, was looking at him but didnt Captain chris have a breathing op after his Chelts run? Then got closer to Ghizao nto. While LML was a poor 4th to Realt Dubh though I know he needs a sounder surface, but so does noble prince.

LML was due to run in the Feltham on better gnd, but when that was cancelled he was left with running in a 16f G1 on Hvy, wasn't beaten that far.

Better gnd, step up in trip, course form, 6lbs pull with CC for a nk.

Am on NP already, he's not as gnd dependent as LML, but agreed.

Mr G  also jumped fairly sharply right at 4 or 5 fences at Sandown , may mean nothing at Chelt ( he did win at Newbury ) but perhaps a concern .

CVB described as a bandwagon jumper Cry never known another poster to derail as many bandwagons as CVB!

Think Mr Gardner is very good, but wonder if he may just end up setting it all up for another? Ainree, a front runners track, may suit better.

Yeah agree RC, just something I like about him and if he did improve for his 2 runs over fences and maybe jumped a bit better and was less free he could have the winning of this.

It's hardly a strong field and I can see him shortening from his 12/1 given it's Henderson and Geraghty and given he's a front runner there is a good chance I can lay my stake back in running hence why I have not gone e/w.

I just think what price he'd be if he hadn't made that mistake at the 2nd last lto and ended a couple of lengths down on Captain Chris.

Agree CVB. A lovely big, old fashioned type of horse, if he develops into a stayer, would like to see him over the big fences at Aintree in a few yrs time. He'll hopefully prove a bit better than that, however.
