How much do you allow for the festival meeting? do you have a set amount to gamble each day, or do you just have a set amount for the 4 days and go from there?

Aside from ante posts i'll have next to nothing i think. Might have something for maybe one bet. 20 or 30 quid maybe.
Report bluebirdfan March 2, 2011 4:05 PM GMT
Nowhere near as much as I'd like this year, unless I have a great day with my Antepost bets on the Tuesday!
Report toffeeboy March 2, 2011 4:12 PM GMT
I have a bank but I have AP bets for every race on the Tuesday so I'll see how my luck is.  If i get a winner or 2 on Tuesday I might put the punting boots on, but since I've been cold since the turn of the year I might just save my money, I always find it easier to pick winners at Aintree than Cheltenham.
Report tinkler March 2, 2011 4:12 PM GMT
I'll be putting all my betting bank on one horse, PEDDLERS CROSS,and win or lose I doubt i'll have another bet
until the flat starts.
Report rogerthebutler March 2, 2011 4:33 PM GMT
Got a bank but bitter experience has shown Tuesday and Wednesday are pretty garbage for me whilst Thursday and Friday (due to the proliferation of handicaps)are 'make money days' so that's where the bulk of my bank will be aimed.

New credit card with £5000 on it going to do multiples all days to make 100k

^^^ We can all dream
Report eric_morris March 2, 2011 7:59 PM GMT
Multiples to win 100k that would be nice.
Report rhinestone March 2, 2011 7:59 PM GMT
25 tied up ante-post, will just do placepots and a few forecasts on the day.
Report Mooono March 2, 2011 8:02 PM GMT
25 potatoes pounds or grand [;)]..I have a £300 bank for the week but if Hurricane Fly wins ill have $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$..
Report horse9 March 2, 2011 8:03 PM GMT
10k for the week, will smash into Dunguib, Garde Champetre and Bensalem so Tuesday takes much of the pot, Poquelin and Big Bucks will be my other two big hits but Thur/Fru usually carry less liability than Tue/Wed
Report rhinestone March 2, 2011 8:06 PM GMT
Grand Mooono, and would settle for Fly winning Love
Report Mooono March 2, 2011 8:11 PM GMT

I haven't done it for the last two years but I always used to back two in each race and do the selections in three £1 E/W Lucky 15's (when there were six races a day) which gave me great entertainment for £90 per day. Potentially big winnings with the outsiders I used to back, but I was generally looking to just get them placed. I also can't resist laying out a few quid on some very speculative 'requests' for big prices I/R and last year I managed to get £2 on Bertie's Dream at 190 which rescued the meeting for me. It's a lot of money for me to be playing with, but I don't care.....it's a once a year FESTIVAL! Grin I may well return to my tried & tested strategy this year as the value on Betfair is appalling at the big festivals like Aintree & Royal Ascot. Anyhow, the bookies where I used to place my bets will be guaranteed odds, 1/4 odds a place, treble odds for one winner and HALF your stake returned if all are out of the frame! It might sound hard to believe but I had five whopping outsiders placed (minimum price 33/1) at Cheltenham a few years ago, when I did 5 E/W L15's, on the 10 race card - ONE placed in each bet! Cry A lot more luck and I could have broken the bank (a five figure sum) with four PLACED in one bet.
If things start off OK on the Tuesday, then the rest of the week can be even more enjoyable. It nearly did a few years ago when my first two (in the same bet) were Captain Cee Bee & Katchit, at 12/1 & 11/1, but New Alco (I had 16/1) was painful to watch, coming wide and he really should have won. What a first three in a L15 that would have been! If memory serves, Jamie Osborne won three of the first four races on a Tuesday in the early 90's.

Undecided.
Have tried to hold off on antepost betting this year because the last few years I had loads on and when the day came around I really didn't fancy many of them, and just felt having bets on influenced my thinking on the day.

Only real AP bet this year was A Media Luz for the Fred Winter Cry had to get involved again on her for the Triumph too. Got a few small doubles and trebles that I'm hoping to forget about, so as to look at each race with a clear head on the day or the night before.

I guess I'd be willing to lose €300 on day 1, if that happened probably €200 on day 2 and the same day 3. Not really a chaser so I'd probably be quiet on the Friday unless I really wanted to back one.

All in on Quevega and then take it from there.
Report rhinestone March 3, 2011 7:17 AM GMT
Quevega hasn't had a Sparky May to run against before.
Report elisjohn March 3, 2011 7:30 AM GMT
my bet will be as posted on another forum , thinking of the longest priced winner market  something like, 200 on 1/2 that winner will be 33/1 to 50/1 and putting the 100 on 6/1 for under 33/1.ok i lose 300 if 50/1 or more comes in, break even or win 400.will keep me very interested in all the races hopefully    and hope favs mop up

My plan is simple, try and come out on top.

Get my cash on Aigle D'Or before JP gets his on. Already done!!!

Intend to lay Cue Card, hammer into Finnian's Rainbow and Hurricane Fly then wait for Baby Run, Big Bucks and Pandorama EW.

No doubt I'll be tempted to back a few others but  for how much? Play it by ear.

Chaplin - you sound like you've got it sorted.....all that's missing is the escort girls calling round after the last race Grin
Report Desmond Orchard March 3, 2011 6:20 PM GMT
Harchi, got a similar hard luck story from last year. I have between £20-£50 on course on each bet, but work them out in the morning and put a  £5 yankee on the 4 I fancy the most, just in case. I'm win only, regardless of price when it comes to multis. I backed, Copper Bleu (won 14/1), Buena vista (won 16/1), Albertas Run (won 14/1 + a fair bit at 27s down antepost), Tidal Bay (nowhere), Sunnyhillboy (placed) and Galant Nuit (placed). Needless to say my yankee was on the last 4 named and not the first. Still cleared a fair bit, but a sabbatical for 6 months would've beckoned had I picked the first 4 Cry

Distasteful talking about size of bank and/or bets IMO. What does it matter?
