Cheltenham Festival

Despite 1 winner from his last 90 runners (my counting may be slightly off, on runners, not winners that is) he still has two festival favourites in Divers and Galant Nuit while Kalahari King is to the top of the Ryanair market.
So which do we think will be this year's winner, my view is probably Kalahari King, but you wouldn't be shocked at New Alco doing a Joes Edge

Galant nuit (kim muir) all day long...Has been prepped/trained since start of the season for this race...will start very short on the day.

im going to stick my neck out and say i think he wont have a festival winner this year. obviously hes renouned for getting horses there in peak condition[;)] but all the same i think hes strugglin for winners even when the anchor is up.

Having a shocking season, and you can't tell me every one of his horses are being aimed at bigger targets. He's got a lot of dross in the yard.

he doesn't seem to have too many progressive horses in his yard this season. the one that might be able to progress is Hollo Ladies, he has the right profile for the Centenary race (no winner won in first 2 starts over fences, not won more than 1 chase)and he was a grade 1 winner over hurdles in Ireland.You will need to forgive a dire run last time out behind Wayward Prince. He wouldn't be the first or the last Ferdy horse to bounce back to form at the festival though, would he????

The Hollinwell is not entered at Cheltenham.
The Centenary is a different races to the Jewson in that it's only for horses rated 140 or less so I would think it's dangerous to apply Jewson stats to it. |

I thought New Alco ran better than the P implied at Chelt in Dec. Had a little canter in bad ground at Newcastle at the weekend and is back down to a decent mark

we heard all this last year and the holinwell started ridiculously short for the jewson i think,and ran a stinker,

The Hollinwell is a generally bad horse, like most of Ferdys

I totally agree with you and think New Alco would be his plot horse. Will prbably go in same race as Joes Edge won at 50/1 a few seasons back and is not over the hill at nine years old. Back to his old form off this weight, he has a fine chance and you might even get the 50's that Joes Edge went in at on the day. Good old Ferdy never a dull moment. |

Galant Nuit was initially being aimed at the Welsh National until striking into himself, while he really needs soft ground to show his very best. Nina is booked to ride though.
Since l'Antartique won the Jewson he's had two short priced runners who have run particularly badly, Naiad de Misselot and The Hollinwell (who's lost the plot). This would sway me from Divers Kalahari King has been 4th, 2nd and 3rd. He now looks like needing the step up in trip and in his three runs so far he's hardly had everything thrown at him. He's a likely placer at least in the Ryanair and would have won it last year if they'd gone for that over the QM in my opinion. New Alco is certainly the interesting one though. |

getting good horses to win handicaps is all he can do, one trick pony i think and hes bang out of form even when his are tryin. a bad cheltenham = a bad year for him and i think theres nothing shrewd about counting on 4 days to go right and ultimately keep his current owners in the yard. im no fan

ferdy knows about well handicapped more than any1 but i still dont think much of him
