I was down there for trials day and Geraghty gave Punchestowns one of the worst rides I've ever seen at the course

I though BG was doing the steering and I reckon he ran about 2 furlongs further than anything else in the race !

Not AP McCoy that's for sure. His win to ride ratio at Cheltenham is something like 11% which is just about his worst win to ride ratio at any track in mainland Britain and about half his overall win to ride percentage.  Yes I know that Cheltenham races (not just Festival races) are v competitive but this should be more than compensated by the fact that he's usually riding well fancied, ie better horses.

AP is no worse around Chelts. He isn't aligned to a top yard that has favourites in the big races where the favourites have a better chance like Ruby and BG (now). He is retained by JPM and so a lot of his better chances of winning are in the very tough to win handicaps. In the big races where JPM has no runner he ends up for the most part on the second string of a top yard or another horse with less chance. That is why his strike rate is lower.

Ruby is a great jock but every year he is always on one at the head of the market in the non handicap races. It's no surprise he has so many more winners.

FWIW I'd probably pick BG at the festival.

I think everyone is forgetting about Richard 'Dickie' Johnson!! Might be in the twilight of his career but defo as good as anyone in his pomp.

Simply Awesome.

Anyone remember his 40/1 ride on Anzum in the Stayers Hurdle in 1999?
