As it is primarily a stats guide do you think there is any point buying this years edition if I still have last years?

Depends whether you find the write ups on the contenders for each major race useful. Last year's festival was a stinker for trends so it will be interesting to see which have been modified in this year's book :)

I'm interested in what people think of it. Personally I tend to use it primarily for the handicaps as I already have fairly well set ideas for the other races.

I tend to find the write ups about specific horses less relevant as it is published so far in advance of the final decs it is a bit hit and miss.

Bluebirdfan I would be interested to know more about your views?

I buy it every year though I get what your saying about h'cap trends.
The line I take is that knowing what my staking strategy will be for the bonanza 13 quid for a guide will not be money wasted

Views on the big races, plus they speak to Irish experts, Bromley etc etc

Its a great read, think the stats are useful mainly in ruling horses out rather than picking the winner.

Agree 100%.

I find it a useful starting point to get the 25 runner handicaps down to about half a dozen. Otherwise days like the Thursday are impossible especially if I have been on the sauce for the 1st 2 days!

Plus Monday night - if you're anything like me you wouldn't get a minutes sleep Monday without 9 pints and a few large JDs....

on a slightly different tack, does anyone know if it will be possible to buy this retail?

obviously i've seen the links to pre-order it and get it delivered by post - but is this the only way to get it - or does it just mean that it arrives a couple of days before being available in WH Smith for example?
