getting out of car parks after racing......

By:
1. Generic, thoughtless, lowest common denominator marketing
2. Loud and boring drunks (pleasantly pi$$ed, racing-savvy wits are what makes the place however) 3. People who come out with 'Only 30 days, 15 hours, 10 minutes and 45 seconds to Cheltenham!'(see herein and 1 above). Well done on learning to subtract you emotionally stunted bedwetters. I know, I know....grumpy old man syndrome, but stuff like this just cheapens the buzz for me. |

Gold Cup day (nap) - Its just uncomfortable the amount of people they let in
By:
Agree with you Satellite Gold Cup Day just isn't worth the hassle any more. I just do the first 3 days now and love it.

Swinia - agree about the Cattermole. Bring back Mark Johnston/Hoiles/John Hunt (wasted with 5 Live).
Tote outlets being understaffed. Car park. |

Where's the snooker table at Cheltenham GI?
By:
I agree GI - they just can't seem to get the tables level.................
By:
Dodgy flat caps worn by the county set and standing behind them in a queue at the Tote whilst they have £2 on about 6 horses in the same race. This wouldn't be so bad if it was just one of them but it appears to be a countryside affliction.

Heh! Never was any good at spelling...

Paying £30 for a Guiness Grandstand seat then not being allowed to take food/drink in due to health and safety
By:
The lemming like filling of the gangway in the paddock, preventing spectators from accessing open spaces on the terrace.
Queueing for am eternity only to wait behind a guy with Niagara Falls strength bladder. No Freddie. |

Hothouse flowers playing the crowd on
St Patricks day Shame i miss them Instead im going wednesday Got Ladies day to keep me riveted!!! ![]() |
By:
People that think its fine, seconds before a race is about to begin to plough there way up the grand stand steps to stand somewhere where theres blatently no room.

Watching your ante post banker romp home in the wrong race

some drunken arse accusing me of throwing toilet roll in the bog at him. He'd had 15 pints and i never did a thing. I reported him to the police and gave him the finger as he was escorted from the course for drunkness. He who laughs laughs

Hangovers, especially the one on the postponed Wednesday!
By:
Poor selection of beers, inadequate toilet facilities, hoorays treating staff like sh*te on their shoe whilst wearing mustard cords.

Waiting for it at this the worst time of year, weather/post Xmas hols etc.
By:
^^^^^^^^^
Agree these next 3 weeks are the slowest of the year...Its like waiting for xmas to come round as a 8 year old! |
By:
eric, this is the best time, the worst is the Saturday
By:
Even the bad stuff (touts, queueing, parking, the blatent commercialism etc) adds a bit of pepper to these brilliant days.
I am currently in the grip of Cheltenham fever as I can see most of you are on here are.... to the point where I will almost regret it actually starting - lol. |
By:
When it's raining, you get soaked.
By:
Gold Cup day - uncomfortably crowded, weakest card of the week and thousands of once a year racegoers who are only interested in getting lashed.
Tuesday to Thursday are the best three days of the year! |
By:
Steamship, not for me because I will have put a lot of effort in preparing for the Festival if covering it so will hopefully enjoy the aftermath which of course depends on personal results and reflecting on performances. Then it is looking forward to Aintree and the Guineas. The Guineas is not as contentious this year with Frankel looking awesome it will be mainly of interest re the Derby so perhaps not as busy in the markets as usual have him the Guineas 7/1 in doubles and will sit it out.

By:
Yes the racing in the next few months is great,I like the first couple of months of flat, then i get a bit bored of it. The Saturday after Chelt just seems boring even though its Midlands National.
By:
Good call on the Saturday afterwards...very depressing.
Taking an ante post position bullish that the price will collapse on the day and you discover on the day the price drifts and your over exposed !!![>o] |
By:
When it is all over all year till it starts again...
By:
Mege depression on the saturday after.
Apart from the crowding it is the non racing people that go and give it large. I was stood next to a group and then was behind one of them when placing his bet. after the race he was showing the group his winnings, he backed a different horse. Just their to splash his wad. Strangely he did it twice. |
