Gauvain i feel needs a mention as a possible big price alternative in the Ryanair.

Raced predominately at 2M yet yesterday was put up to 3M against Riverside Theatre at Ascot

Was it me or did this Gauvain go toe to toe with RT(2nd in king george) till turning in, jumped beautifully and just didn't get home.
He has proven form around cheltenham, goes on any ground and using RT as bench mark must have a great E/W shout over 2.5M
2M against what looks a red hot field in QM looks beyond him.

Any thoughts

I agree and actually fancied him for it the year he got injured.
I didnt back him on Saturday because I wasnt sure he was as good going right handed that said I had him down as the winner on
the back straight. I have no doubt that he is better at Cheltenham but the last thought I have from Saturdays run is if
Riverside Theatre turns up he will be very hard to beat.

last race was over 2m6f. that means he should see out the ryanair ok. he was tapped for toe turning in but he wasnt ridden out once he was beaten (prob to protect his mark in the unlikely event he was going for the grand annual). last effort was a career best i think and his trip is def at least 2 and a half miles if not more. i thought he was a one hit wonder but his betfair race was very encouraging

Only one bad run at Chelt was when he bounced, eye catching back in the Arkle in 09, VC form can't be trusted in my view, so I bet him 50.1EW NRNB for the QM, seemed a good place bet with a chance given his run first out, I dont want to go with anything else in the race at the prices.  I was a bit peeved that Sizing Europe isnt going further and more so when they ran him right handed again over 2M5+, I think he'd be nadged at the end of that around Chelt, and best chance is to try and stretch them in the QM.

Nick Williams was delighted with the performance of Gauvain in second, and said: "We're delighted with that, especially as our two runners came last yesterday.

"He goes well at Cheltenham so we must go for the Ryanair; there's no question about that."

it was just at the bottom of the betfair chase report on the rp website
