On all discussions about the Gold Cup, there has been one consistent theme; that the big guns are getting older, and their careers are drawing to an end, and how it’s a great opportunity for one of the younger brigade to step up.
Horses like Long Run, Diamond Harry, Pandorama and Midnight Chase all to the fore of the market, but there isn’t much talk of Synchronised, who is a young and very progressive chaser. His form figures over fences read 11311.
He shrugged off a 7lb rise and beat a very good field easily in the Welsh National and Silver By Nature has just come out and advertised the form of that race.
Has gone up to 159, which is still a way off Gold Cup standard, but what’s to say he has stopped progressing? He is only 8 after all and trainer is quoted as saying he has been a slow learner.
Eight years is a young age for a horse to be aimed at the Grand National, and connections were a bit non-committal on this race after he won the WN, plus they also have DPI. I’ve been trying to find information about his plans, but haven’t come across anything, not surprising given the owner/trainer combination.
It wouldn’t surprise me if he ran in the Gold Cup, where else does a 159 progressive, second season chaser go? He could wait for Aintree but it is more often than not good ground for this meeting and any later meetings, whereas there is often cut around on Gold Cup Day, it could even be soft!
He is an out and out stayer and a solid fencer, and his chances will always be enhanced when he has his preferred soft ground. He’s a massive 66/1 and you can back him at 50/1 NRNB, which could be the ew play, surely they wouldn’t run him if they weren’t happy with the ground. Everyone is assuming McCoy will be riding Kempes in this race, but I am not so sure it’s as clear cut as that.
It’s a bit of a punt I know, but the race has a history of big priced runners getting placed, as well as a few shock winners. If it did turn up soft on the day, I’d want this horse on my side with McCoy booting him up the hill.

Well i think he is in field if ground is heavy and that's unlikely, i do like the horse though and is a improving one.National for me GI and give AP back to back wins

Interesting post.I think the horse is being slightly overlooked and underestimated.He may have lots to find on ratings but the points that GI Mac makes about him being a progressive stayer who if getting his conditions look very valid.He could look overpriced come the day given his ground.My main concern at present is the form of his stable who are dreadfully out of form

Wouldnt have a prayer i.e the pace to keep tabs with them
Midlands national over 4 miles @ Uttoxeter last yr he was being ridden after 1/2 a mile and never looked like winning until he outplodded the opposition You would want hvy in the description & carnage in the field to give him a prayer of a place. |

I tend to agree with Geoff - I think he'd be run off his feet. He strikes me as a pretty unlikley runner, though it could be a fair prep for the National. I really can't see McCoy riding Synchronised ahead of Kempes who is a live outsider.

He did travel rather well, up with the pace in the Welsh National, didn't need to be ridden like the Midlands. I think hes a stronger, better horse this year.
I guess there is every chance he could be taken off his feet, he needs his ground thats for sure which would help him. |
