cheltenham spa it is m8.Always have a steady walk to the track via a few pubs, much better than sat on a bus.
|
|
By:
Cheltenham Spa the only station (as far as I am aware !)
Shuttle buses and taxis galore when you come off the train If my memory serves me right it was about £4/£5 return for the bus - no idea about a taxi Journey takes about 20/30 mins as the traffic is usually horrendous and would be even busier on GC Day Huge queues after the racing has finished, better off on the buses as they take more people, you'll get on one of them long before a taxi - the taxi queue was miles long ![]() |

Jibber, yes Cheltenham Spa, Buses outside, hop on I think £6 return to racecourse & back, be early as traffic is bad after 11am. Good Luck. If you paln on walking, I did it one year, you'll be knackered after two races![smiley:crazy]

my train gets in at 11.51, am i going to struggle to get to the course for the first race in decent time?
|
|
By:
I,d try to pre book a cab for that time?
Well say 12.15 |
|

I live 10 mins from the Station. It is the only one and yes there are lots of buses and taxis up there. Will take around 15 mins in a taxi at peak time, there are shortcuts so you will be there in good time as long as you have tickets.

I was looking at train times/costs from Birmingham to Cheltenham. Normal fare is around £7.50 single mid morning but on the festival days it's around £20 for a single! Surprise surprise the train at 1pm (getting into Cheltenham after the 1st race) the fare is back down to £7.50. A complete rip off from the train company.
Moan over!!! |

Think that's called supply and demand.
Wholeheartedly recommend you walk from the station, especially if it's a nice day like last year (and have time). A leisurely stroll to the Montpellier Wine bar, drink, nip in to bookie next door, pint or two around the High St, then walk past Pitville Park soaking up the atmosphere, chatting to likeminded punters, getting the Irish whispers, and laughing at the touts. ![]() |
|
By:
Walking up through Pitville park, seeing the primroses and doffodils in full bloom, clutching hold of your ante post wagers, full of optimism on the Tuesday morning.
Life does not get any better. |

Goth 83 - with a name like that surely an Aberdeen connection??
|
|
By:
Not sure I've ever seen Emmanuel Eboue or anyone who looks like they might have the name Eboue in Pittville Park ever.

Captain rather silly, deserved to go Yep we're down for the week again Head down Monday morning and return on the Saturday. Staying in same house as last year so that's fine, know our way about etc You down all week also ? Had an awesome year last year, Wednesday 4 winners which included Cue Card, just an amazing day so definitely hoping for another one of them and a CDG moment ![]() |

Aye PH is fast losing his godlike status that was foisted upon him, looking a bit slow in his old age and acting childishly (oxymoron alert).
![]() Staying for two nights in Brum, so just going on the Tuesday. Work for myself now, so taking the week off. ![]() Lucinda's horses are coming in to some form after the horrible weather, I would love her to have a winner, maybe TSB in the Fred Winter ?? ![]() |
|
By:
Good stuff, the Tuesday is by far the best day, loved it last year and this year is shaping up to be just as good with a decent Supreme Novices and an awesome Champion Hurdle - got Peddlers at 16/1 so will be cheering him up that hill - again !
Hoping for a big run from Tonto (Silver by Nature) on Saturday, looks like he's going to get his ground as well Got a syndicate horse with her (Milnathort Racing Club) and she's brilliant, really good with the owners. I too would love to see her get a winner. |

All the best doogs, the heavier the better. Hopefully chat again before the 15th, if not have a great time. COYR.

Bus ride £6 ?
Been a few years since we did that but it was only a quid and probably no more than 12 years ago ? There is a station near the racecourse, never been there or seen it but it does run services for the Festival, I think it might be a steam jobbie therefore a tourist train ride, and no doubt a fare to match.... |
|
By:
doogs / goth - make that 3 reds on the thread then!
I'm the odd red out - no Cheltenham for me this year - not unless a last minute change of heart.... |
|
By:
Since Forpady is not coming over maybe we should ask to borrow their scarves.
![]() Beach End at Cheltenham ! |
|
By:
I remember having a singalong in the Queens with the Forpady guys in 08 when the high winds cancelled the Weds.
Cracking bunch of guys - certainly kept us entertained that afternoon. That was some week - the disappointment was overtaken by a feast of racing on the Thu/Fri. Naiad Du Misselot saved my bacon! |
|

Welcome Oasis [;)]
|
|
By:
Cheers doogs, SBN - one of those horses you'd love to own eh!
|
|
By:
Absolutely - as a 'wifie' of course I love the greys !!! Would love the yard to win this race again with him. He's in good nick, will love the ground but it's a lot of weight, fingers crossed
|
|
By:
doogs - was discussing L Russell with a pal who has horses with her - says the owners are treated very well and get good comms from the yard.
Yard in form counts for a lot in my book. It's a competitive race - 9/1 looks about the right price. |
|
By:
They certainly are Oasis and she is very approachable and sociable. As a syndicate owner we are welcome in the yard anytime which is great.
See Tonto has been Pricewised !!! I took some 12's earlier in the week. Will have to record the race as I'll be at Todders ! Brrrrr |
|
By:
No Todders for me today, other stuff to do.
In the end I've deserted SBN and went for Le Beau Bai with a saver on Nicto De Beauchene. Will put LBB in a trixie with Exmoor Ranger and Tasheba - a difficult days racing imo. COYR!! I fear Killie may pass them to death but hopeful the Dons have the stronger strikeforce now. |
|
By:
Well done SBN and Doogs! Just went 3-0 the reds so a good day for you all round.
I thought Celestial Halo had saved my bacon but sadly not - oh well back to the drawing board! |
|
By:
5-0 and Tonto
wins easily, great day!Just waiting for the Tims tomorrow for my coupon to be up. Fingers crossed. |
