Thanks Rhinestone - I've just discovered it's not called the Jewson anymore and from what I can gather, it's not even a handicap! That ruins it for me, as I thought he'd be rated about a stone and a half less than his best hurdles rating - that would have made him a really decent bet for a big outsider - he's traded as high as 110!
Any idea where the Festival handicap weights can be found? |

The 'old' Jewson handicap is now the centenary on the tuesday for rated 0-140. Weights aren't out yet, some have ratings though which gives you a guide, Bouggler doesn't have a rating from what i can see.

Thanks again Rhinestone - I used to know the conditions/names/order of all the big races in the calendar but with these busybodies nowadays, it's a full-time job keeping on top of their fannying about! Annoying bastards! Emma Lavelle has stated Bouggler is heading for the Jewson and as it doesn't exist anymore, it's the toss of a coin whether it's the Centenary or the Golden Miller - it wasn't like this even a few years ago
Racing For Change eh? WHY? These imbeciles that make these decisions are just corporate c0cksuckers that don't even LIKE racing! I despair! ![]() |

I have been keeping an eye on this one as well, think he is eligible for a decent bonus if he wins at Cheltenham following his win at Plumpton earlier in the season.
I don't think he has been allocated a chase rating yet however looks to me like he will get a mark in the high 130's which means he would probably be eligible to run in both the old William Hill handicap chase and/or the Kim Muir for amateurs so plenty of opportunities exist for the horse. Initial entries for the handicaps at Cheltenham are being made on 22 February. |

I think you guys may be underrateing the mark that he will get. i cant see him being south of 140 therefore wont be able to run in the old Jewson. I personally think ground dependant he will have a good chance of levels in the new one.

Abbott - Wymott beat him 10 lengths and he's got a rating of 142. I think there's every chance he'll get a sub 140 rating. FWIW, I don't think there'll be any ground concerns with this horse and I'd like to see him on a quicker surface.

Harchibaldy he was found to hvae bled that day. Its very rare that
horses get a lower rating over fences than there hurdle rating if they have performed to a decent standered. Whilst he will I doubt it will be as low as people think. On a line through the Mimack he will be rated higher. |

I knew about the bleeding Abbott but maybe most people didn't know about it and I don't want to be responsible for a wholesale gamble on a horse that mightn't even line up in the right event! My last ante-post bet at the bookies was Hardy Eustace, his first Champion Hurdle victory at 33/1.....I had even bigger odds for his supposed target - the Stayers' Hurdle! I've still got the wounds
It's a difficult one to assess his chase rating at the moment but I disagree with you about it being very rare to get a lower rating over fences - the handicapper always gives them a chance, and if I remember correctly, a few years ago (probably doesn't happen anymore) if a horse made its debut over fences in a handicap, the rating would be 14 lbs LESS than the hurdles rating. It's been a very rare occurrence but I have seen it a few times. |

Read Tom Segal comments and i cannot agree sorry Tom.Take on board what he said about losing quality horses like Best Mate who ran in the Arkle and countless others who may of ran in Jewson.
Gives horses chance at trip more suitable for them, and them not rushing if they would have had they ridden over 2M and possibly injury. Also gives owners more winning options at different trips, and giving us punters headaches trying to second guess and get a tasty price. And there another race at the Cheltenham festival - PERFECTION Not had bet in race yet until i know whose defiantly running.Do like Noble Prince and Captain Chris but wont commit just yet.Backed NP last year and he flew up hill.Captain Chris probably has better form but he may switch to Arkle |
