this is probably a very stupid question, but just having a look at all the entries for the Supreme and seen that Far Away So Close for Paul Nolan has an entry, but was a runner in it last year as well. How is that possible, has it happened before, I presumed he would no longer be a novice? He also has a Neptune entry and ran in the Oscars Well race the other day. Very confused.

You are a novice until the season after your first win in a hurdle.

So with Far Away Close in the 09/10 season he didn't win a hurdle, so was allowed to stay in novice company for 10/11. However now he's won a novice hurdle (October 2010) he won't be able to compete in novice hurdles next season (11/12) but can compete in them for the rest of the current season (10/11).
