Right its going to cost £150 on train so I can do 1 day left it too late for staying over. What day should i go? Ive done Thurs and Fri in 2005 and im favouring the first day so far.
Very much depends on what ticket you're buying. If you're Grandstand side of the course then Tuesday or Wednesday, if you're going in the Best Mate enclosure go Thursday or Friday.

Do the Tuesday; stick as much as you can afford on Bensalem in the race formerly known as the WillHill chase, double up on Bino in the champ hurdle, then spend the rest of the week still at Chelt or drinking champers at home with the missus!

this thread just made me buy my tuesday tickets. Been Tuesday last 2 years and last year the hype around dunguib was incredible, never known such anticipation going into a race - everyone was on.
I go to the friday november meet also, that 80 mile drive to the racecourse is the absolute best - discuss every race over and over. Placepots done when you get there, all bets done night before on betfair (only a few on course), pint in the arkle bar - go see cue card in pre parade - stand on lawn in club (its the best 65 youll ever spend).
Anticipation is everything...

Tuesday by a mile if you are only going for 1 day. Do not go in Tatts.I would go for Club or Best Mate depending on your preference.
Tatts viewing is poor. You are either stuck in a small area past the winning line or miles away in lower tatts. Best Mate is miles better viewing than Tatts.
Apart from having access to the paddock I struggle to see what Tatts has that BM doesn't in festival week. Even that is a pretty pointless extra during the festival as it isn't the sort of meeting where you can wander from the paddock, have a bet and then take your place in the stands 2 mins before the race.

My best experience of Cheltenham was last year, when I was in the Best Mate enclosure for Ladbrokes World Hurdle Day! Thursday is often under rated.
Is there an argument that as Tuesday is possibly the best day's racing it's best to watch it where you get the very best view of all...on the telly!?
Gold Cup day is a complete no go, if not just because the journey home is so depressing as you know it's all over for another 12 months!

The viewing has always been fine for me, and I'm average height. In fact it's been better for me at the last few Festivals in Tatts than it was on King George day this year (though Kempton is much smaller). Maybe I'm just lucky, I don't know. But it has always been absolutely fine. Just use the phrase "excuse me" with a bit of purpose. I've never had any problems getting to the winners enclosure afterwards either.
And once again in total opposition to Banks I'd avoid the BM like the plague. You are not part of the Festival over there, you're surrounded by idiot chavs. The view is no better than Tatts IMO where you actually feel a a part of the Festival.
Just my opinion, for what it's worth.

For me its mainly about seeing the horses in the paddock, having been to many big meetings I know you see more on the screen, so Im happy to see in paddock, bet on by phone, watch on a big screen, see them come into winners enclosure, have a pint and start again. That said I do love watching it on the telly RUK from 9am

Joist, pays your money and takes your choice! I agree the Best Mate enclosure is full of 'idiot chavs', but the Tatts is often full of the another anti social group...'the work's outing'! Basically a bunch of fat b*stards and made up tarts getting absolutely smashed and over aggressive with each other, leaving their half eaten food all over the floor for others to tread in!
I like to keep myself to myself while im there and focus on the racing, and found this much easier to do in the Best Mate enclosure than anywhere else. Plus at £20 a ticket you're a bully in front before you've even started!!

It is each to their own I suppose. I tend to vary where I go each day as I am often meeting different people who won't necessarily be in the same enclosure.
My final bit of advice is that a Tatts ticket plus a G'ness grandstand seat is better value than a Club ticket at virtually the same price.
If you are in a big group and are really tight it is easy to get everyone in the grandstand with 2 tickets. Equally it is easy to walk from Tatts into Club without being stopped. Loads do it every year.

Without a doubt 1st day is the best, I have been going since 89 and I can never understand why people think GG day is the best, it's the worst you can't move for the masses and other than the Gold Cup the racing is average. The first 2 days you get the best racing and you can move around comfortably.

These guys are giving away ten pairs of tickets for the first day of the Festival. Won with them last year and it was a pretty cool day out. They won't be getting as many entries as the likes of RPost.

i like to spend it with my 4 racing pals in a villa in the canaries
racing uk, betfair, sunshine, swimming pool, ice cold vodka, barbq's
no crowds, no chavs, and hopefully no rain

Gave up going on gold cup day last year having been to the previous 24 runnings, crowd is horrendous. Now just go to the first 3 days in the club enclosure of which I find it hard to split Tuesday & Wednesday in terms of my favourite day

Is it worth getting a seat in Guiness Stand? usually just go in tats and wonder if forking out two tickets at £25 per head would on top would add value to the day? Whats it like?

Or what about the extra £75 for a tatterstalls grandstand? seems like quite alot of money tbh, but might make the day more enjoyable.

Tuesday best racing, Tattersalls also, Best Mate enclosure on Gold Cup day is like "Shameless" times 5![smiley:crazy], great craic though if you are getting a severe beating by the bookies.
