STAN JAMES Champion Hurdle hope Dunguib may be entered in the Coral Cup, trainer Philip Fenton revealed on Wednesday.
Dunguib is as short as 14-1 for the Champion Hurdle with Paddy Power despite having not raced since April, having missed his intended seasonal reappearance in last Sunday's BHP Insurances Irish Champion Hurdle through a slight illness. Connections intend to start him in the Red Mills Trial Hurdle at Gowran Park on February 12, but Fenton told At The Races on Wednesday that he might not even be ready for that contest. "He will do a bit of work on Saturday, but we're begin to panic a little bit that he won't be ready for the Red Mills and we won't be able to run him before Cheltenham," he said. Added to that worry, Fenton also said that his charge may not even run in the Champion Hurdle. He said: "The form of his runs last year is still fairly solid. Whether it's Champion Hurdle form is another question but all along we've had great belief in this horse. "Two and a halfmiles in the Red Mills will be the furthest he has gone and we could go for the Coral Cup after. "He would have to run well in the Red Mills before we decide what the next course of action is." |

If he were mine I would be thinking about The World Hurdle.. travels so well when not rushed.. and his jumping would not be such an issue....could see him giving BB something to think about..

Just proves it was a silly price for the Champion. Agree with world hurdle as an option. I'd have put him over fences by now but there must have been a problem for his seasonal debut to be this late.

If Dunguib doesn't turn up for the CH then the owners should remove him immediately and put him with a proper trainer.
Fenton's horses are not only limited but running poorly and his choice of jockey has to be questioned. I think he has ridden 6 winners this season from 200 odd rides. My only hope is that he (Fenton) is just getting cold feet before the big day but considering the horse hasn't run yet and the CH is about 7 weeks away has to be a worry. |

Having kept the faith and backed it for the C H I know I am talking through my pocket but the Coral Cup has some stats which do not look like suiting Dunguib As with everything stats are only a guide but here are mine rated 128-140 won earlier in the season NOT run in the past 40 days won over 2m2f-2m6f The other worry of course is now there is the danger of failing the C H stats too. |

I'm the same Postie. Been backing this for a while and into about 2k at the moment. I can't believe how badly things have gone and still think he has a great chance in the CH. If he comes out and bolts up at Gowran we will be back on track but if he doesn't run, ouch.
He is only rated in the 140's though so in the Coral would be getting weight from Any Given Day, Ashkazar, Organisateur, Escortmen and Royal Mix among others. He would beat them doing handsprings if they ran. |

Ruled out by Fenton.
Fenton said: "The Coral Cup is not in the picture. The owners were not too keen on it. We'll see how heperforms Saturday and that will give us a fair indication of where we're going." |
