I've tried the three enclosures but settled on Best Mate years ago. I actually watch the races on the big screen, but I know I would end up doing the same if I was on the other side. The reason I like Best Mate is because you can move around reasonably comfortably. The facilities in Club are much better, but the problem is that it is so crowded you can't actually use them (especially on Gold Cup day). It is impossible to see them in the parade ring, get a bet on and then get a spot in the stand, so what's the point. There are plenty who will disagree with me completely, but it's all down to personal choice. What matters to me won't matter to someone else. If you haven't been to Best Mate before, I'd say it's definitely worth a try for one day at least.

I go there for every meeting.
I prefer it to Tattersalls because it's less crowded. I don't go there to drink or eat - just to watch and bet so for me it's ideal - I usually take a hamper and share it on the car park before racing. The viewings fine too, it's a different perspective to see the finish with the Main Stand as the backdrop. OK I can't view the horses in the paddock but I don't miss that - I can see their wellbeing at the top of the finishing straight as they turn to run down the hill to the start should I wish. It can be a bit boisterous due to once a yearers at the Festival but it's easy to avoid; and I've never been inconvenienced or bothered by the minority. They all tend to stay in the ****ss tent out of harms way of us keener racegoers. Give it a go - you'll enjoy it. |

I agree with everything that has been said above. |

Also agree with everything said above, If you aren't worried about having a drink every race there are plenty of places to view the racing, just need to be in position 5 mins before the off.

Would rather watch at home than be forced into the Best Mate enclosure with all the morons on their Sun day out.
Of course Tatts is crowded, it's the biggest meeting of the year, but for me that's part of the fun and creates an incredible atmosphere that you don't feel a part of in the Best Mate. Except for Gold Cup day which is admittedly a nightmare, getting a bet on is not that difficult, nor is getting to the parade ring, however you do get forced to choose between them but it's a minor inconvenience to actually feel part of the Festival and not have to endure the chavvy drunken idiots urging horses to fall, etc. I'm sure people have had fine experiences in the BM enclosure, but my one day spent in there was awful. |

No you don't need tickets for the seated area Abbott. Just get in position about 10 minutes before the off. There's usually spare seats and its not frequented by the chavvy drunken idiots mentioned below.
I often sit in there - it's a great view. It's right at the start of the Stayers Hurdle too. A grandstand seat to watch Big Bucks's before the tapes go up! |

There's no atmosphere whatsoever in the Best Mate. Last year it felt like we were watching others enjoy themselves in the Tatts.
When Binocular won last year the Tatts went wild, everyone cheering him home and it looked like a great laugh. In the Best Mate it was stone silence, with no one bothered. Same was when Peddlers Cross and Big Zeb won - we cheered like mad, and everyone looked at us like we had two heads. Definately the Tatts this year. Yes its more crowded but you FEEL like you are at the Festival, not watching it from a distance |
