......he's isn't entered. Hope that helps.

Not this year no time to get him ready. It does look like he might next year but if he was mine why change a winning formula?
Report Cuthbert January 15, 2011 5:22 PM GMT
There's only one Gold Cup, if he were mine I would think carefully about supplementing him. Apart from Imperial Commander, it looks a weak event with both Kauto and Denman looking past their prime.

Cuthbert, when u say "think carefully about supplementing him", i take it that means he can still be entered? do they have to pay an amount to have him entered or something?
Report Hussard January 15, 2011 5:32 PM GMT
I'd tend to agree with Cuthbert. I reckon Denman and Kauto have had too many battles and are a bit long in tooth. Imperial Commander a very worthy favourite but Big Bucks will never ever have a better chance than this year. Can they supplement Big Bucks ?

I took a punt on the 990 on purple site just in case the yard see the light.

Didn't Andy Stewart say he was staying over hurdles for the rest of his career just the other day?
Report duffy January 15, 2011 6:04 PM GMT
any thought of big bucks in this years gold cup is nonsense....to start with how do you prepare a horse who couldn't jump a fence properly the last time he tried a couple of years back......it would also display total desperation and an acknowledgement from the stable that they have no confidence whatsoever in their top chasers.....i for one think nicholls is far better than that, and kauto and denman probably don't deserve that lack of faith either.
Report Paul4 January 15, 2011 6:08 PM GMT
i also think pride of dulcote and what a friend have decent chances in gold cup, and wouldnt write off denman.
Report Cuthbert January 16, 2011 9:20 AM GMT
The stayers hurdle is a nice race to win, but it's not the Champion Hurdle or Gold Cup. If I had a horse with a chance, I think I would have a go.
He didn't look natural over fences, but that was two years ago, look what a bit of intensive training did for Long Run, he looked a differebt horse yesterday.
Report Luke01 January 16, 2011 9:29 AM GMT
Paul, I agree with your comment What A friend didn't like the betfair chase when not traveling against imperial I think a good sound run and a win under his belt. If he travels like he did in the previous hennessy and improves on that run he is massive value. Also Pride of Dulcote is due to improve.

I can see why Andy Stewart doesn't fancy going chasing. He has possibly the best staying hurdler of all time so why risk the horse over fences. Does Big Buck's deserve that? Fwiw I backed him for this years Gold Cup but there seems to be no real confidence behind a Gold Cup bid ever and they are bound to have schooled him over fences. Maybe he just doesn't like the larger obstacles.
Report Ibrahima Sonko January 16, 2011 10:04 AM GMT
Too much is made of his ability to jump fences, he is not a bad jumper. He only unseated in the Hennessey and he doesnt exactly lose ground at his jumps.
Report Cuthbert January 16, 2011 10:23 AM GMT
Which race would Andy Stewart most like to win ?
I can imagine only one answer to that question, Gold Cup winners don't come along that often do they.
Report Masterminded January 16, 2011 10:36 AM GMT
You will have to be a very good jumper to win a Gold Cup in the next few years. Looks a pretty competitive division to me.
Report Paul4 January 16, 2011 11:42 AM GMT
if was mine i'd settle for 5 world hurdles :)
Report Masterminded January 16, 2011 12:22 PM GMT
I would second that^
Report Ibrahima Sonko January 16, 2011 1:29 PM GMT
i would prefer 3 world hurdles and 3 gold cups myself.
Report ReaseHeath January 16, 2011 2:32 PM GMT
fact that Nicholls entered seven and he's not one of them says it all for me.
Report Cuthbert January 16, 2011 8:44 PM GMT
When he posted the entries, Kauto was still a realistic winner of the Gold Cup.
Report ReaseHeath January 16, 2011 8:49 PM GMT
Nicholls comments today suggest he,at least, still thinks that Kauto is a realistic winner of the Gold Cup.
Report Cuthbert January 16, 2011 9:44 PM GMT
Looking at the available odds, and general opinions, that seems like sentiment, rather than belief.
