Is this a bad bet - the more I read the form the more I think it last years championship race winners are value for a place (big bucks excluded obviously, but throw him in for another 20%). Perversely I fancy big Zeb the most and think he's the least likely to place 2nd/3rd - either wins or falls. Albertas as well to make it 5!

Cant entirely knock the bet as previous festival form is a big plus in my book but do you think some of them have the 'talented but quirky' trait?

tell me this mr mulligan will they be that much shorter the week before the race?

Personally a bet like this with prices as short as you are talking is best the week before.

only binocular really - not necessarily quirky but a bit in and out, having said that has always run well at chelts. I follow trends and think imperial the real value ew - might not be the greatest race in the world and apart from the 10 year old stat and lay off it is difficult to find 3 better than him.

abbot - there is NRNB out there with a couple of books and I think they could be shorter, maybe not a whole lot but enough to make the ew angle less attractive. The head says they can't all win and I suspect one will let it down for the place part, but keep thinking its not a bad punt.

All potentially the best in their races but if youre looking for one that might let you down - I see three! Then again I suppose the same is true of any horse (except big bucksHappy)
Sound like you know what youre doing but also quick reminder - going for a kudos championship race acca if you know there's better bets in other races is baaaaaad!

re. kudos - I actually think the championship races are the easiest AP. The Champion hurdle too hard this year but QM  quite uncompetitive as is the gold cup. The other race were i think there is value is the front two in the Arkle.

MY AP betting view is you spend the money somehow so might has well use it for that, also good to have a few done already for days I'm there (all but the Thursday his year - happy days).

No saying about the nrnb bit mate but say the ground came up heavy the week before would you still fancy big zeb and binocular?
I do think these bets are worth while and put a similar one on last year but much closer to the time and with the sole intention of winning the place part.
