Menorah
Cue Card
Denman
Imperial Commander
Diamond Harry

any others?

All of above look likely to heading straight to the festival and I think it's a bit of a shame we are starting to see the star national hunt horses less and less each year. Now to say 3 of those horses will be in the same race and the other 2 could also end up in the same race. If one horse out of those 5 goes on to win at the festival it would be a likely result. To base a whole season around Cheltenham like this is a bit of a shame really and I can't really see why they are all doing it when there are lots of other races to be won. I guess looking at it positively it will be great to see these horses at their optimum at the festival.

Thoughts?

In fairness. IC has had a setback, Denman has the excuse of age and the history of his heart problem, Diamond Harry is reported to not take his racing well and be best fresh, and  Menorah and Cue Card have each been seen a few times this season already.

I agree though in having reservations about just how much emphasis is given to Cheltenham within the racing calendar these days. Not at all sure it is a good thing.

Agree AKA, there are specific circumstances relating to the above horse. Menorah & Cue Card have raced 5 times between them this season and Menorah has won two big races already. I think both of them going straight there is perfectly justified tbh.

IC has had an injury scare and needs time.

Denman was masterful when fresh in his Hennessy runs and IF they can get him to put in a similar performance in March, then he he'll win. The right thing to do imo.

Diamond Harry .. not sure .. everyhorse Nick Williams has seems to be best fresh, imo.

What about Rupert ? Is he to run again.

And Quevega ? She'll be lightly raced I suspect.

Yes I'm not knocking connections or the horses or the festival for that matter. But as the season has got into full swing all I seem to be reading is horses going straight to Cheltenham. There is plenty of racing before Cheltenham.

Might as well just write off January and February as part of the NH season and have a winter break imo Plain

Nonsense, it's only pansey English horses who are being put away. We've got the Irish Champion and Irish Hennessy in those months. Silly

appreciate the points but also as a small part owner some of the better horses being kept back for the festival gives us all a better chance to go for prizemoney - appreciate that's not a plus for everyone and i like seeing the best horses like everyone else but it is a side benefit

Big Bucks going straight to the Festival :-) - I could not be happier as I have backed him antepost and this is the best thing they could have done with him. He will win the World Hurdle again.

The BHA could save prize money by just abandoning all meetings in January
Report sintonian January 5, 2011 3:00 PM GMT
FFT, Pumkin said Ghizao likely to go to Aintree afterwards aswell and he's already ran 3 times, the same for Big Bucks. 5 runs in total is very fair imo.

Yeah, I see no reason why over-cooking a horse. If I had a horse I would over give it 2 or 3 runs before the Festival. I would like to have a horse fresh going into the race with a lot of work done at home. Nicholls has top facilities so I am sure he can get his horses in top shape at home.

Fair enough Mayweather, but then I hope you wouldn't then go on bleating about the levels of prize money and how terrible it all is being an owner like so many do.
Report Mayweather January 13, 2011 12:25 AM GMT
Rogerthebutler - the only person moaning about prize money on here is you. You won a prize for ugly muppet on this forum and you got like 50p for it.
