I was very taken with his recent chase debut at Galway.Travelled beautifully and jumped very nimbly and economically, pulling clear over the last two fences until blowing up on the long run-in to finish out the frame.
The pre race drift in price suggests to me he was far from peak fitness, and after race comments from the trainer suggested that the 3 mile novice chase at Cheltenham next month was on the agenda.
His Albert Bartlett victory at the festival last year confirmed his liking for the course, his stamina for 3 miles, but in my opinion more importantly, his gutsy attitude when asked a serious question in the heat of battle.
At a best priced 25/1 for the RSA I feel he is no more than a fair price, however at this very early stage he is at the top of my list to follow the Weapons Amnesty path to RSA glory.

He didn't win in racecourse debut last season either, so that would also suggest he was not fit, couple with the drift and post-race comments. Some of the horses in that race are OK sorts aswell without being superstars.

The Albert Bartlett was a real war of attrition this year with the softish ground, so I'm not sure he has the class for a normal RSA (he was 33/1 for the Albert Bartlett so had hardly set the world alight).

Can see him being a National type horse in a couple of years.

I agree with the OP. THought that was a decent little contest, and despite the drift, he travelled very well for a long way.

Certainly on my radar for the RSA.

trainer said he won the RSA as he out stayed his rivals on soft ground... hence 2m6f on good was a fairly easy race to draw a line through him.. i backed him for the RSA on account of its another race you need real stamina to win, but layed off as i feel ill get a better price at some point this season- thats the plan anyway

alex - who are you talking about Weapon's Amnesty (RSA) or Berties Dream (Albert Bartlett)?

Usually I'd think he would lack the class for a RSA, but it will be interesting to see whether this year's newly  added 2m4f novice chase will draw a lot of horses that would traditionally line up in the longer race. Still suspect it will be a good race and he might just lack that gear required, but it wouldn't be the biggest surprise if this year's RSA is full of staying types rather than the Long Runs and Punchestowns' that were fancied last year.

Thankyou for the replies. The "class" angle is an interesting debate. After checking through the top 20 listed horses in the RSA betting,Berties Dream has an official hurdle rating (147) of within 3 lbs of 16/20.The 4 exceptions are Time For Rupert (166) Fiveforthree (161) Mikael D,Haguenet (156) and Spirit River (152).
With the 2 Irish horses returning from injury, and Spirit River unproven yet over the trip,IMO only Time For Rupert has solid credentials. His official hurdle rating is of course largely down to his fantastic run in last years World Hurdle as his previous hurdle form fell approximately 12 lbs short of this.
Looking at the last 8 winners of the RSA , only Cooldine (151) was rated higher than Berties Dream.I appreciate that class can be measured in ways other than official ratings,(potential, latent talent etc) however I feel quite strongly that BD does not fail on this criteria.
I agree with Tom that the introduction of the 2m4f novice chase will dilute the opposition greatly and therefore I've had a small bet @ 30 on here.
