i'd second the new inn if its the one in letchlade....stayed the last 4 years,good people and a good meal/pint/laugh with informed racing folk.....wondering now if i've met you imsoluckylucky....part of the group of 4 londoners myself(the young handsome one naturally :p),could be a few more this year as some of the people i meet up with at cheltenham are looking to spend a few days there so even more brains to pick

If it is the centre of Gloucester you like and are wanting to stay, there are only really two hotels: I am assuming you want a licensed bar and are talking about March. They are the New Inn (as mentioned above) and the Station Hotel (which as you can guess is appropriately named).

There are plenty of surrounding chain hotels, but would be some way out of the town, well too far to walk.

theres a travelodge in city centre now by the quays, next to a big pub and a chinese restaurant opposite

many thanks for the replies but everywhere appears to be sold out...will keep trying and yes we go in march , have been for 12 years and always stayed in glos so would like anywhere in town or walking distance to it as we dont race everyday...just visit the pub with a bookies close by....thanks again for any help lads

any locals have an idea of where i could rent a property for the week

after 25 ywars of going ,ross on wye ,is a good option.
1)gloucester is scruffy/s hi te
2)chelt is 4 day only double rate.
3)ross is 20/30 quid a night.- 35 min car journey.
4)irish pub,owners of pomeath(well summut like that)
5)st paddy day ,will max options.
6)given racing post is a daily newspaper,why does libraries block access to post site.technically its freedom of info problem.
7)do park at prince of wales stadium ,short walk to course.
8)dont go in tatts,grandstand or best mate,
9)dont attempt to get drunk ,too busy.

Is KC'S still open in Gloucester.....had a few rough nites there...

Ah yes TL - locally known as The Kennel Club. I'm afraid I haven't ventured to that part of town for some while (I know it closed about 18 months ago but think it re-opened as some sort of "club")

A few good tales to tell about the Kennel Club definately needed to take a lead in there ....

The Plough, Ford... a no brainer.

Yeah The Plough at Ford is a great pub and efinitely worth a visit.

Think it's proably booked for the Festival but get a drink there before or after racing just for the atmosphere

Put a word in for Malvern for the festival.

Stayed there last year and everyone said it would be dead. How wrong can you get. Plenty of great pubs nearby (e.g The Walter de Cantelupe in Kinsey) easy run into the course (45 minutes tops even on Gold Cup Day), coupe of decent curry houses, outstanding countryside.

I'm already booked in for 2011.

Gloucester is a circus - lived there all my life.

if you dont care about quality,and want cheap,the bristol hotel(i think its called that )on bristol rd,

i think gloucester is a horrible place - a dump,is dead,even in festival week,it suffers from council spend money on chelt and forget glous.
